- This is a well engineered prototype! Great mechanics and fun theme interpretation. Controls were easy to pick up. I was under the impression from the GDD this would be a more paced tactical cannon defense game, but the autofire surprised me. The difficulty curve combined with the very large map made it very hard to plan attacks. Ended up spraying and praying a lot trying to manage later on as the round progressed, and abandon any attempt at bonus scoring. Was difficult to judge distance at such length with such a large play field as well. Difficult to juggle between mob management and sustained damage to the boss. Overall it could benefit from tuning overall, including the size of playspace, size of cannonball and speed of objects moving. Fantastic and effective use of the town as a health meter, seeing the buildings get destroyed helped reinforce urgency and focus when playing. The GDD was well detailed in your features and plans laid out. Great explanation on mechanics and enemy types broken down! They translated well to the final prototype. Good luck with further development!

Port Defender is a 3D shooter game where the player takes control of a cannon to defeat a fleet of pirate ships led by the infamous Captain Carlosa. The pirates will attempt to land in the player’s city, and it’s up to the player to prevent this before the city’s defenses fail.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You control old canon with unlimited canonballs.

Simple game mechanic that looks great! Love all the environment details from the trees to the mountains to the bell. Of course the ships look great and I liked having a little bit of variety of health and speed of each. Music was intense, I survived for 6:01 till I perished to the pirates. Enjoyed it!
Great game. Really reminded me of the old flash games I would play. Was a fan of the rapid fire cannon too.
Never knew fully automated cannons were a thing. Pretty fun experience though :D
Very nice! I love the layout of your itch page! This game has improved a lot since I played earlier in the jam, I like the visual addition of showing where you are aiming, though I feel like the time it took for the cannonballs to get to that location was a bit long so it still made it hard to aim even with the target. I'm not sure if that is part of the design though, I'm just here to say well done :)
dope as hell
The cannon shooting looks and sounds nice! The reticle doesn't feel super accurate to me. And the ships are so far away, I wanted to be closer to the action! Really nice job tho!!! Keep making games!
Was really nice how the enemies sailed immersively towards your port! That rate of fire though... Idk compared to the flight speed of the cannon balls it felt.. a bit much. Great submission!
Really great demo! Fun! I lasted about 5 minutes, got a little bored by then - but I love the concept. Hope you keep at it and add some more enemy variety, maybe cannon powerups, etc... Maybe break the ships into waves, that type of stuff. But, again, great work!
Addictive! I thought shooting slow would have been more fun at first since the first few boats are easy to spray down, but once they start flooding in I can see why you did it the way you did! It was fun and frantic.
Amazing submission, really loved the full auto! Looking forward to seeing where this goes
Looking forward to more updates!
Pretty interesting idea! The full auto cannon was a bit wild. I think it would make it more fun if I had to wait longer in between shots. Having to line up and hope I hit the target with a 2 sec reload or something would make it very challenging. Cool idea though!
Fantastic game submission. Had a lot of fun playing it. Took me too long to discover the cannon is full auto.
Thank you so much! I could have made it clearer that the button can be held. I'm glad you liked it! :)
Astounding GDD and prototype. Added to my collection for games to return to when the jam completes.
Thank you, glad you like it :)
