Nice OST overall, incredibly solid chiptune, probably one of the best I listened to during the jam! Great job!
Everything about this was just so incredibly charming and cute, I really did love all of it. Your melodies were so fun to listen to, and I think you leaned into this more chiptuney style super well and did everything you really could with it, which is always so fun to hear. Excellent work!!!!
Level Theme is amazing!!! I relate it 100% to the cover art.
This was a very fun soundtrack to listen to. I think you have made a very interesting combination of sounds. And I think that is your strongest point.
Great work!!!
This is really cool! Quite frankly, I wasn't aware you could choose your own theme, but it's really nice to see people "stand up for themselves" haha
Some great quality 8-bit tunes over here! Great job!
Lol yeah, i chose my own because of the part under the theme that said "Note: The themes here are more like an inspiration, and strictly speaking there are no specific "musical theme" for you to follow and that you can compose in any genre you want, so the submissions can be as diverse as possible." but then I saw that pretty much no one else chose their own theme (as far as I know) so I might have misunderstood it 😅 they might have just meant that you can compose in any style :P
Thank you! :)
Some really cool ideas here! The Main Theme has an infectious kind of joy to it - definitely reminds me of some of the opening themes on kart racers back in the day. I love how it transitions into an almost fully directed chiptune composition in the final half of the track. Really nice use of chord arpeggios in the background, and I love how you've handled the percussion. DCPM sounding kicks and snares with the noise bursts for the cymbals and transitionary SFX. The modulated tempo at the end was a nice touch, too!
Straight away, the Level Theme captures the vibe befitting of the title. They always had such upbeat and groovy themes for level, stage and course selections back then and I think you've nailed the feeling here. This track in particular definitely leans more into the tropical side of things, especially in the lead melodies. Gave me some faint memories of Angel Island from Sonic 3!
Finally, the Shop Theme reminds me of something I might hear in a Zelda title. The bossa vibe here is immaculate and I love how the track feels equal parts pensive and upbeat; emulating the player being curious in a shop and weighing up what they can afford. The piano melody here is really great - breaks away from the typical chiptune restriction but adds this whole other layer of ear candy to the track.
Great work - this was a really fun listen, and I'd love to hear whatever else this imaginary game would have in it. I think the thematic execution was perfect and that you really honed in on using your inspirations to craft your own unique take on things.
Thank you for such a thorough review! Hadn't heard sonic 3's ost but as soon as I listened to it, I could totally see it!
Wow... It was one of the best sources of positivity! It feels carefree, light and chill... (I was smiling all over your soundtrack, lol)
I like it! Thank you for the good mood!
awesome stuff. i agree with the mixing suggestions mentioned by people, but i'm very impressed with the compositions, the energy, and the way you handled chiptune sounds!
I had a smile on my face while I listened to these so I had fun!
Good Job!
I think the melody synth in the second song sometimes had some audio clipping but overall I loved this entry!
Woohoo!!! The first track is super fun to listen to- but definitely starts off WAY too quiet. I'm sure you were going for a very dynamic piece, but I think you may have gone a little too far with the quietness of the first bit. But I loved the first track!! My dog was dancing to it the whole time!
Just played the second track, my dog started dancing even harder... please make it stop...
I'm on the third track now and my dog has begun to ascend to the groovy realm- I would be mad at you, but she looks so happy just dancing her way up there... I've... I've never seen her so happy...
Thank you, Mr. Me256 for sending my doggie to the groovy realm... May she boogie till the end of time...
You did a wonderful job, all of your songs were super memorable and fun to listen to, definitely one of the better submissions I've listened to so far :)))
Haven't heard much crunchy stuff, nice!
Nice and catchy throughout the whole soundtrack, the only complaint I have is the mixing on the shop theme, I found the piano and some of the percussions to be a bit too loud.
You got a knack for catchy melodies. Love the half steps and little subvertions of expectation. Great job!
The one word that springs to mind when listening to this is TIGHT! Everything is so focused on the style and sound you were going for, and they all fit together so well to evoke that old school feel. Really well done!
I particularly loved how the main theme blossomed and opened up towards the middle of the track, then settled into a groove towards the latter section. Great work my friend!
Thank you so much! Much appreciated :)
Cool soundtrack! Everything is very catchy and reminds me a lot of some older games I used to play.
Thanks!
This is so charming!! Total throwback to the SNES/Genesis era, both in sound and style. Your orchestration and mixing choices are all great. Some real ear worms in here too with those melodies. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! This is my first time ever submitting any compositions, trying to get into it so that means a lot :)
