Description
The Canyons is an exploratory game wherein the player character journeys through their mind each night. Seemingly, their dreams start to be corrupted by an external force and each Brain Biome is affected. The player must then explore each Brain Biome, evading danger and ultimately solving the mystery- what is corrupting my dreams?
"The Precipice" is a trip-hop-inspired electronica track that is made to represent main action sequences. It is the main theme of the game and can be looped. It would play throughout the overworld but especially in the titular Canyon-Brain Biome.
"Ocean Floor" is a flip on "The Precipice." Whereas the precipice is an energetic, driven track, Ocean Floor is a jazzy-ish piece meant to represent a more somber side of the world.
Despite the track being darker, it retains many similarities to The Precipice. Both songs have the same BPM, key, and they share the same bassline. The similarities are meant to remind the player that, despite being in a much darker place than they began, the player is still the same at their core. This song would play in the Ocean-Brain Biome.
Message from the artist
Hello, and thanks for listening to my entry for this Jam! This is my first composing jam, I thought it would be fun to see what I could make. I hope you enjoy! Constructive feedback and thoughts in general are welcome :)
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The songs are meant to represent the visuals in the picture theme. Each track represents a different location and vibe/situation for what's going on "Inside My World" in the fake video game, The Canyons for the word theme.

The Precipice: It's such a small detail but I really love how the bass walks up from the 1 to b3 degree. Very cool track!
Ocean Floor: A variation on the first track! That bass movement I love returns. Love the more chill take on the track.
Thanks! Glad you like them!
Ocean Floor is a jam, and I love the idea of both tracks sharing major components but having vastly different overall vibes. Nice work!
such an interesting jazzy collection of chords in ocean floor!! very ethereal
Nice work. It's painting a quite unique landscape with your choice of chords! Nice job getting two tracks out too!
Nice groove in the first track and harmonies in the second! Nice submission :D
Interesting ideas and music! I like it. Very techno, which is awesome. Good work! Ocean Floor was my favorite.
Really solid submission! I liked Ocean Floor the most, the EP used had such a nice chord progression. Keep it up dude!
My favorite part was the middle of the precipice when a lot of the instruments were playing together because of how full it felt.
Thanks! glad you liked it!
Your use of panning and other effects gave these entries a lot of character, and sharing the bassline helps us connect these songs and give them both a fun defining feature! All I can say is i would have loved to hear how you would have handled shared elements like this in a larger soundtrack, but can only ask for so much in 9 days XD, good job! Really nice to listen to.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words! If I had 9 days I'm sure I would make it a bit more in depth and weird haha
The atmosphere in Ocean Floor is on point. Love it! The reverb you use represents very well what you are telling in your story and the shady side of it.
Well done!
Thanks!
The Precipice got my ears fluttering, I love that pluck instrument that comes in at 0:44, super nice touch.
Ocean Floor kind of reminds me of Minecraft ambience, which is absolutely a good thing! Great job.
thanks! I’m glad you like them! And the plucky thing haha
The Precipice is a very catchy bass .... And, I don't know why, but I got a bit of a Black Mesa vibe..... Heh)
Ocean Floor - cute and.... water)
Awesome job!
never heard the black mesa soundtrack until now- what an interesting soundscape. Thanks for the comparison! So cool that it’s a fan made remake of half life
I love that intro with the bass synth The Precipice, very groovy! Ocean Floor is a great contrast bringing back elements of the first track but with a more mellow tone. Good work!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
The Precipice has a great beat. Got me dancing. Ocean Floor immediately intrigued me with the unpredictable rhythm on the keyboard. I want more! It's an awesome snippet. Thanks for making and sharing.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! If it got you dancing that's a win for me haha
Great submission! I enjoyed the bassline you made and the atmospheric piano. The Ocean Floor is a little sparce, but that can lend itself to design opportunities in game. I enjoyed both tracks, thank you for sharing :)
thanks!! I definitely think that track could be designed a bit more but I’m super glad you like it!!
I really liked the distortion you put on the strings in the first track! It made for an interesting timbre.
thanks! Those strings I thought added a cool energetic element to that track.
You have a very unique take on the idea musically! love the electronic touch! I think the mixing on the first track was a bit lacking but I love the bass line. The second one I absolutely loved !
Thanks! I could have definitely put a bit more time into mixing that track specifically. I'll probably brighten it up a bit after this is over. :) Glad you enjoyed!
You got some interesting idea, only the mix seems all "clustered" especially in the bass, try to go simple in the low end and more high end we need some brightness to balance everything.
thanks for the feedback! I could definitely agree with that especially for the second track... the piano and electric piano are rather low. (frequency wise) Especially with the bass-I'll put a bit more time into the mix after this.
