Description
(see project page for full story!)
Ezra is a 2D top-down puzzle-adventure RPG and it's soundtrack is composed of chiptune instruments with the occasional organic sound. The music encapsulates the protagonist's, Ezra's, journey to break the time-loop their world is held in. Each track represents an area, battle, cutscene, ect. (each track has a description on my project page) The entire soundtrack was composed in garageband, with one of the tracks being created in audacity.
Message from the artist:
Hey! I had a lot of fun making these, and I hope you enjoy them! chiptune is cooool
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
Ezra's narrative is centered around the conflict of being stuck in an eternal time-loop. Ezra's determination is to break the time-loop, freeing the world.

Enter Ezra: This is a unique and catchy melody - this is a great for a main theme because it can be used in many different settings in different ways. The quality of the 8-bit sound is great - go Garageband and Magical 8-bit!
The Town of Evergreen: The waltz rhythm along with the sweet melody gives this a very calm and serene feel. The bridge with the underlying bass part is a great variation from the original melody and would set this up well for repeating back at the beginning for a loop.
Psithurism: I really like the wind effect supporting the vibrato-heavy long held notes. This track has a lonely feel to it, yet the melody is still cheery. The pitch bend down surprised me, but it felt natural jumping back into the melody.
At the End: It was creative of you to add authentic choral sounds to indicate the presence of the God of Time and Space, while Ezra is still represented by the chiptune sounds.
TIMEBREAKER: The bass and percussion drive this groove and give it the energy it needs to be a nice battle theme. I really like the reprise of Ezra’s theme at 1:24.
Tragedy Falls: This is a creative way to end the game. Not all stories end with a happy ending and it is refreshing when you find one that doesn’t sometimes. This is a very sad theme, fitting for the situation.
Nothingness: This is a creepy track, and it is a really creative idea to have this be the last thing in the game.
Neo’s Room: This is a very upbeat track that contrasts with what the player last heard! But I would appreciate having some sense of celebration at the end of the game so this is a welcome happy track!
Overall: This is a fun OST and a very creative idea. It is reminiscent of old gameboy games and would be fun to see this used in a real game. Great work and thank you for sharing!
dude, this is actually so cool. thanks for taking the time to look into each track!!
Really digging the last song, very nice and catchy melody and nice harmonies, too!
Some really nice chiptune music here, with mainly (IMHO) 80s vibe combined with some more modern sounds in a couple of tracks (choir for instance) which makes a nice addition and adds diversity to the OST. I enjoyed listening to the music and think it was well done :)
There are elements that I don't agree with - the use of accidentals in the main theme, the legato choices, the chorus loop in timebreaker, etc. - but they're just minor gripes, personal taste stuff; the most important stuff in a chiptune album, the pacing and melody, are on point. Also "Nothingness" and "Neo's Room" end the album really well. Neo's Room might be my favorite track, so it was a good one to end on imo.
dude thanks for the feedback! there are definitely things that can be improved, some parts were a bit rushed. but i try to place importance on the melody and im glad they turned out alright!
Timebreaker was a fun little twist on the soundtrack up to that point, and Tragedy Falls has a very nice impact to it - though not as much as Nothingness, an impressive use of background noise to convey the conclusion of the narrative. Pretty dark, would have expected there to be some sort of resolution after that point; I love that you just end the game there ahahaha
Overall, it fits the theme well and goes along nicely with the game as you described it. Solid OST, nice work!
All very beautiful songs! I personally felt like the percussions were a little quiet compared to everything else but that might just be me. Really appreciate how you extensively thought out where each songs will be played carefully haha, that's awesome.
I could visualize the game through these tracks they're so cool! especially TIMEBRAKER and Neo's Room which sounds super cheerful! They highlight the story and I'd definitely love to see it in an actual game!
Listening through on soundcloud!! I really like how Enter Ezra - At the End establish a musical language for the project, only to be contrasted by TIMEBREAKER. It definitely plays into the story of the game, and the impact of the TIMEBREAKER track. Great job!
thanks!! i was really trying to use the music to push the narrative. glad that someone picked up on it!
