Description
We imagined a narrative game a la "To The Moon" where you can use a clock to travel through various phases in a person's life. The five main tracks are supposed to represent the same person as a baby, child, teenager, adult and old person, respectively. As a bonus track, we added a lyrical version of the lullaby that is played during the end credits.

Message from the artist:
Due to illness on my girlfriend's part and a severe miscalculation on my part, we ended up having a lot less time for recording and post production than we had hoped for. We still quite like the ideas we had and hope you enjoy them, too!

Theme:

Tick Tock...
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
We interpreted the theme in the sense of aging and tried to represent the lifecycle of a human using 5 different songs.

"World of Wonder" is really cute, definitely has that child-like wonder to it. "Teenage Battlecry" has a good amount of energy to it. The rest of the soundtrack tapers off in energy and mood from here, making me feel old and tired by the time I finished the emotional "Dreams and Memories." Lovely piano work and composition overall, nice job!

That's very nice, cute light hearted soundtrack! Well done!

Very nice sounding and well produced music. Glad I could hear it!

Last song with the voice is just beautiful. Good job! :)

A beautiful soundtrack that is calm and cozy, and sometimes a bit more funky and upbeat! Even if you hadn't mentioned To The Moon in the description, that's where my mind would've went. I especially like "A Slower Life", it feels so nostalgic, and it is very loopable, would work perfectly for just exploring an area for some time, aaaand... maybe collect some memory orbs? ;)

Developer

Haha, thanks! Yeah, basically my girlfriend sent me a first draft for the main theme and I immediately thought about To The Moon, glad to hear I’m not the only one.

love this submission! the way you portray each stage of life is really accurate (to how old i am at least lol). the lighthearted and upbeat songs of youth contrast strongly with the more melancholy songs of age. i found myself getting emotional at "Dreams and Memories", but when "Hush my Child" with lyrics came on, i just about cried.

very well composed! i enjoyed listening to it :))

Developer

Aw, thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the soundtrack definitely has a bit of a bittersweet note to it.

This is awesome! I love the mood and instrumentation, especially. I can really see the game you envisioned for this OST and its bittersweet storyline. Excellent work!

Developer

Thank you! :)

This soundtrack made me nostalgic. :') Great take on the theme! And I love the execution! The songs are short and to the point, varied, they all fit their purpose wonderfully, and the credits song is simply lovely. Even if you were short on time, you did a great job. Congratulations!

Developer

Aw, thanks for the kind words! :)

Great entry and a lot of fun!

Hush My Child: Great opening lullaby.

World of Wonder: Awwwyiisss. I love the recorder/xylophone/handclap/uke(?) combo developing the theme.

Teenage Battlecry: As someone who listened to a lot of ska as a teenager, this made me lol.

A Slower Life: Emotive piano with nice string accompaniment. A bit sappy for my tastes but it's pleasant and effective.

Dreams and Memories: More nice emotive piano.

Hush My Child (end credit version): This is a lovely lullaby and I feel lucky that Iget to hear the live recording with the locals. Thanks for making and sharing.

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Yup, you’re right about the uke. Definitely was a fun song to record, too :)

Lovely music - and bravo on incorporating vocals on that last track! Great concept too. Your tracks were very sweet to listen to. :) Hope your girlfriend has recovered now!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, she’s much better now fortunately.

Beautiful tracks! I loved the mix of live recordings with samples. I think you were able to convey each stage of life through the music very well. The last song was so comforting to listen to, I guess it did its job as a lullaby haha

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, we definitely got a little sleepy listening to the songs while mixing :D

Simultaneously light and poignant and a lovely take on the theme. Really nice work on the live recordings even if you didn't have time to polish it. Good job :)

Developer

Thank you! :)

Light-hearted and enjoyable. I had a good idea of which part of life each song was supposed to represent and I can definitely imagine it fitting a hand-drawn style indie point-and-click story game!

The vocal on the last song was also a pleasant surprise, their performance was great!

Thanks! :)

I am thrilled to hear something recorded live!

Hush My Child: an effective, simple, lilting melody is a difficult thing to achieve while still sounding fresh. You've managed to succeed with an utterly pastoral little tune... I was dying for a repeat!

World of Wonder: by the time I reached this track, after hearing only two measures, I immediately knew this was going to be one of the top soundtracks. The playful use of meter is brilliant when trying to portray children's experiences, and it sounds like this recorder melody (brilliantly played) fits the contour of the Hush my Child melody, almost like a variation. A knack for good melodic writing is on display here. Having a definitive A and B section was also smart. Again, I wish the music had looped! But I understand limited recording time.

Teenage Battlecry: still a very lighthearted track, I don't have too much to say about this one. It's very cheery, and the brass/organ combo reminds me of carnivals, marching bands, etc...

A Slower Life: A beautiful, gentle track (that piano motive sounds so much like the opening to Defying Gravity!) I'm so happy to hear these live instrumentals, which truly add such a warmth. There were two times in this track where there were contrasting natural 6ths and flat 6ths played, which did pull me out of it a bit-- but again, given these are live recordings and time was limited, I can't protest too mcuh!

Dreams and Memories: smart use of the crackling effect to portray the aging that has occurred. A somber ending indeed.

Hush My Child (credits): excellent and sweet conclusion to this utterly adorable soundtrack :)

On the whole, I feel that World of Wonder was the most lovely track here, and it felt really innovative and exciting. I think some of the later tracks could have used similar levels of fun and creativity, but they all undeniably matched the vibe of the life stage they were meant to represent. You should be immensely proud of your work, and I hope your girlfriend is feeling better (you sang beautifully!) Good job, and keep writing!

Developer

Whoa, thanks for the elaborate feedback! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

World of Wonder being the most creative entry was definitely at least semi-intended, trying to portray that as a person grows older, while their technical skills may improve, their imaginativeness might grow a little more stale over time.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen to our little experiment :)

I don't know how to comment music like that, but Dreams and Memories made me think about the moment when old I die in total loneliness and regret.

Developer

Heh, a little darker than what we had imagined, but we definitely tried to go for a bittersweet vibe there.
