Description
The game is a stealth adventure game, where you make your way through a fairytale forest, meeting or avoiding various creatures and people from Grimms' fairytales. The end goal would be for you and your child to safely reach your mothers house on the other side of the woods.
The music is orchestral. I used Logic Pro X to compose.
Once Upon A Time...: This would play during the opening cutscene. The scene would be presented as a storybook, telling the tale of why you're running away.
"Once upon a time, there was a kind young woman and a handsome young man who were deeply in love. They were happily married and lived in a little village on the edge of a dark and dangerous wood.
The couples happiness was shared by the townspeople for only a short time, however, and rumors quickly spread about the young woman. Many believed her to be the daughter of a witch, and thus a witch herself.
But despite these rumors, the young couple continued to live a happy, peaceful life, and soon welcomed a daughter into the world.
Their excitement and joy was cut short when the young man became very ill. He died within a week. The rumors, which had been a nuisance before, very quickly became dangerous. The people believed that the young woman was responsible for the mysterious illness, and fear and anger spread through the town like a plague.
They kept their contempt no secret, and soon publicly declared their intention to execute her and her daughter for witchcraft.
The young woman, finding it necessary to leave in haste, thought of the only plan she could; she would leave and go to the one place where her daughter could be raised in peace--the very place she had been raised. A place she hadn't expected to return to so soon-or ever. And so, on the very eve of her execution, she bundled up her daughter, donned her worn green cloak and her resolve, and took towards the forest and, should she survive the endeavor, towards home."
Through the Woods: This would play when you're moving through the woods between major landmarks.
Rumpelstiltskin: This would play whenever you're talking to Rumpelstiltskin. He would pop up whenever your character needs help, to offer his services, for a price of course. Eventually you would run out of things to give him, and so he would attempt to take your child as payment.
Message from the artist:
This one was challenging for me, as I struggle a lot with orchestral music, but I think I did a pretty good job all things considered! I do want to continue making music for this game concept, since there was a lot of ideas that I didn't have time to use. Let me know where I need improvement, so I can do better next time. I hope you enjoy!
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
The main character is running away from her village. The game is also a stealth game, which involves a lot of running and hiding. The picture makes me think of a fairytale forest, which is why I went in that direction. I also took the green cloak and baby on the back for my story concept.

Once Upon A Time - Neat progressions here. It's very whimsical and I really like how much progression there is in this particular one.
Through the Woods - Like how whimsical this sounds. Definitely getting a woodland vibe.
Rumpelstiltskin - Now there's a mischievous fella. Or at least, that's the vibe I'm getting.
Really nice soundtrack. Definitely got forestey adventure vibes from the whole soundtrack. Great work!
Very good analysis! I’m particularly proud of the progression in Once Upon a Time, glad you liked it! Woodland vibes are always a good thing! And yes, he is a very mischievous fella :) Thanks for listening!
I love these! You captured the stealth elements perfectly. Nice choices of instruments and I especially like your use of pizz! Great work!
Thanks! I’m glad that I managed to get the stealth part right. This is actually the first time I’ve used pizzicato, but it’s very fun to use! Glad you enjoyed!
Very nice OST!
That cut off ending in "Through The Woods" is intentional, or accidental?
The song is made to loop, so it’s musically intentional, but for whatever reason the program I use cut off the last note halfway through when I uploaded, so in that way it’s accidental. Thanks for listening!
Ah, so technical glitch, as I suspect ^_^...
anyway, very good work!
Great soundtrack! Loved your choice of instruments (especially the clarinet) and the mood, good work!
Instrument choice is tricky, so I’m glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for listening!
Love this OST, it really gives forest vibes. Favorite has to be Once Upon A Time. I like how the tonality changes, ending up in the Dorian mode at the end, which to me gives huge forest vibes. Overall a really pleasant OST!
Thanks! I'm glad you mentioned Once Upon a Time, I think I had the most fun making that one. And forest vibes were what I was going for, so I'm glad I was successful in that. Thanks for listening!
For someone struggling with orchestral its really not bad at all, i'm impressed its sound pretty well, the composition in itself is great, good ideas the only thing to watch would be the low strings staccato doing chords or at least third interval, the lower you get the worst it will sound so try to not do that, you could interact low bass note with viola or violin chords that would make more sense. Good job !
Thanks for the tip! A lot of my struggles are with making the instruments sound natural, so it’s really nice to know what sounds better/more real. Thanks again for the great feedback!
I wouldn’t have guessed that you struggle making orchestral music, this is great! Through the Woods was my favorite track
I guess I hid it pretty well haha :) I’m glad that you liked “Through the Woods,” it was definitely the trickiest for me to make. Thanks for listening!
You did really well in creating a tight orchestral sound without burdening the tracks with too many layers or instruments. I liked the sense of 'something is coming!' I got from "Through The Woods".
Thanks! I was definitely going for a feeling of being followed with “Through the Woods.” Glad you enjoyed!
I love your themes! Very memorable and cute in a way. Harp has a great Zelda vibe. Fits the storybook theme perfectly. You pick up the themes or parts thereof repeatedly with different instruments. Great cohesion this way. Rumpelstilzchen theme is my favorite. Really captures the mischievous nature of the little creature. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for listening! I'm really happy with how Rumpelstiltskin turned out, so I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Very whimsical. Through The Woods was like a mix between Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean. Don't ask me why. But I like it :)
Thanks! Whimsical is what I was aiming for, so I'm glad it turned out that way. And that's a very flattering comparison, I'm glad you liked it!
Wonderful! I really liked all of your songs, but I enjoyed Rumpelstiltskin the most! Well done!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed! Rumpelstiltskin is my favorite as well!
