Description
These tracks are intended to be used in a platformer or adventure game.

Track 1 - Autumn (Genre: Drum 'n Bass)
This is the main song for the project - it starts off with a mellow looping Rhodes line, before slowly introducing a mix of lighter key instruments and a low bassline. The calm intro then gives way to an upbeat late-90's drum & bass break that kicks the track into gear. In terms of being used in a game soundtrack, this song is intended to be used for an 'introductory level', or an open-world segment where the player is free to explore at their leisure. The jazz-inspired melodies and high-tempo drum work should bring a sense of excitement and interest to the player before they embark on a new journey.

Track 2 - Winter (Genre: Ambient)
This is more of an ambient instrumental bed or tone-setter that allows additional melodies or instrumentation to be placed on top. This track has an enveloping ambience that slowly builds a dark scene around the listener - although it is kept simple and minimal, the chords create a strong sense of emotion. In terms of being used in a game soundtrack, this song is intended to be used in a 'winter level', albeit one where something is clearly off... rather than being a wintery celebration, the level would cause a sense of unease for the player, while dropping subtle hints that some sort of entity awaits them further on in the game.

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
To fit the jam's theme, each track is representative of an individual season (or section of the provided picture theme) - for example, 'Autumn' uses ambient nature sounds and warm keyboard + Rhodes melodies to create an image of a typical Autumn scene with an orange glow. 'Winter', on the other hand, uses dark chords and metallic instrumentation to represent a freezing, gloomy winter environment.

Autumn: This is an excellent upbeat ambient track. I think that the slow introduction of new elements to your song adds to the fact that this will be a literal introduction to your game. I think the driving rhythm adds interest to the listener. I think the collection of sounds you use work very well together and I really like the ambient sounds in addition to the wind-like build-up sounds you use to transition into different sections of your song.

Winter: The collection of sounds here gives a frigid feel which is apt for the winter theme. I also really like the balance you strike with the musical “meat” of the chords and the atonal background bell/clicks and think you have a nice mix.

Overall: I think you do an excellent job setting up your soundscapes. One suggestion I have is that adding some variety in chord progression and making your bass line different from your melody line can add even more interest to your songs and make it so that a 2+ minute loop does not sound repetitive no matter how long you spend in the level. I would be very interested in hearing what your spring and summer themes would sound like!

Thank you for the feedback! You're definitely right about the chord progression and bassline - I'm planning on updating 'Autumn' sometime soon and those are the first aspects I wanted to adjust.

i always associate drum and bass with like, SUPER INTENSE AAGHGHHG, but it was actually very relaxing! love both tracks, great job!

The drums never feel repetitive or boring, which is essential in that style
Maybe the melodies need a little bit of development to keep the interest high
Winter sounds like it could have been more but i like the fact that it's a bit dead and silent
it fits well for the theme

Autumn was a banger, I got into the chill vibe immediately and enjoyed being caught off guard half way through. Winter felt a lot like the season, but missed hearing some of the beautiful melodies like you had created for Autumn.

Developer

Thank you! I started the 'Winter' track somewhat close to the submission deadline so I didn't get a chance to pick a final melody, but I'll definitely edit them in the future.

Impressive quality, particularly like the drum and bass on the first track.

Thank you! The drum and bass part was the most fun to make too lol
