I loved the enemies, very creative, especially that garbage can and banana lol. However, I stopped trying to fight them because the attacks didn't do squat when one hit kills the player and it takes multiple to kill the enemies. I died laughing when after I died and the enemies kept chopping my head off over and over. That actually is one of my favorite parts. I think if you improved the collision and made the enemies die with one hit, and added a Boss battle or item to claim; this game would be a sealed deal. Love the retro aesthetic and feel. Great job.

Hey, great job on your first game! Love the artwork, reminds me of some commadore 64 games. I found it difficult to actually kill enemies, I think mostly because the attack animation was very slow. If you sped that up a bit and maybe had an indication when the enemies were about to shoot, the player could anticipate that and move out of the way while still attacking. Overall though, great job on your first jam! Loved that banana enemy :D

Nice! I liked the vibe in this!

A few things that could be improved are the collision detection of the man -- It seems like you should be able to cross the bridge with your head poking out above the object. The collision detection behaves as if it is a top-down view, but the art is from a tilted perspective. I think the puch could be more responsive too, I was smashing the space bar and it looked like the guy would puch very late -- some feedback to the player would be good there (bigger visual / sound)

Good work!

Really good take on your first game! Maybe add some info text to the "tutorial" part where you declare what to do in the game (was a bit unclear for me).

You might wanna look into your colors and color theory a bit since your game is a bit hard on the eyes if you play for a few minutes .. ^^ Adobe has a cool color picker website which might be helpful!

This game was... strange.  I loved the baddies.  They were just bizarre.  A banana that throws smaller bananas at you?  And with all these things throwing stuff at you and all you have is some weak kung-fu action.  Capping it off was the head continually getting ripped off after you die and get hit again was what really sealed it for me, though.  I'm not sure what to think about Garbage Man, but it definitely is memorable!

Haha. I loved the little banana people. Overall I didn't play much as 1) I didn't really know what I was supposed to be doing, and 2) every time I tried to punch something I would just die. A couple of thoughts:

  • Give a clear objective to the player. Are they supposed to just kill everything? are they supposed to save something? Should I be directing the banana man's attacks towards the trashcan man? Let players know how to play your game besides just how to attack and move.
  • The collisions boxes were weird and I kept getting stuck trying to go on bridges. Might need to make the collisions more subtle or known to the player. I died from a projectile trying to run away and got stuck trying to get on the bridge.

Overall not a lot going on to base too much off of. Overally I did like the almost "Atari" vibe it had. Loved banana man! Keep working at it! :D
