How did you make this detailed of a game in a week?

The writing, characters, art and design of the game is super well done. I'd really like to see a devlog or some kind of documentation of the process if possible.

There were two issues that left the game softlocked, there is a small one when you are first able to buy the gourd if you have $42 you don't have enough to buy another seed.

The second is not being able to climb the vines, I replicated the error by climbing up to the pelican then cutting the vine down, when regrown I wasn't able to climb back up or climb up where the main pots were. 

It would be awesome if these two issues could be fixed, I want to see this game do well, honestly surprised it hasn't been featured yet.

I'm on uni holidays at the moment so I spent pretty much the entire week making it.

There's actually other ways to get seeds (%chance on cutting grass, %on digging holes) but I'm now realizing I don't think I explicitly said that anywhere so if you don't get seeds on the first few cuts you might give up and never know!
As for the other issue, thankyou for catching that! Seeing there's no way to save, I was really nervous that the game might be filled with softlocks so I'm glad it seems nobody else has encountered this yet. Sorry you had to reset but it's great to know! I'll upload a fix for both of these after the jam's over

I considered doing devlogs but my process is extremely messy haha But with a bit of cleaning up, a recap isn't out of the question. I'll try and see what I can pull together and let you know!

This is very impressive, and very polished! I feel like I would play this regularly if I had it on a Nokia phone.

It does give me retro Nintendo vibes (in a very good way). Honestly there's not much I can think to say about this because it's all so good. It feels like a complete game, not something made for a jam. Good job!

The one thing I would say, is that if it were actually a phone game, I'd make the plants take longer to grow to encourage more incremental play. But for the jam the speed worked great, so that's not really a valid critique, lol.

Thankyou! Yeah, the fast growing was a conscious choice for the jam, even with the time-skip mechanic my brothers both ended up waiting at points and when the game is already on the long side for a jam game, I didn't want people's experience with it to be waiting so I made it a lot quicker. But yes, for a real nokia version I think you're absolutely right. Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

Wow, everything is here, impressive and diversified art, inventory system, dialog boxes, quests and a journey adventure, lots of character, a choice between 2 playable characters... AND that grid based movement.
One small little thing and that's just me but I would have loved to have a 3 or 4 frames base walk cycle.

Thank you so much! I definitely agree on the walk cycle animation, but I'm a messy coder so the two frames is built into the movement system so it gets a little complex hahaha

The visuals in this are really cool. I don't think it's possible to pack more detail into 84x48 1bit pixel art while also keeping it comprehensible. The choppy movement is a nice touch too that helps sell the phone aesthetic.

Great job!

A small issue I noticed is that the text for the gardening pot description seems to be cut off.

Top marks! The art drew me in but then it just continued to impress. Love the dialogue and text scattered throughout the game (they have that classic nintendo rpg feel about them) and things like the pixel-snapping movement bring authenticity to the whole experience. Great entry!

Wooow! There is so much done here for a gamejam, and it is so well polished! I loved the pixel perfect movement, the pixel art was very clean and sfx were great.

What can i say, i loved it all. The story, the graphics, the mystery and the gameplay are too polished for a game jam, its an overkill. Congratulations on this game, it is a piece of art!
