I really like this game, the originality is right there and playing "against" an AI can be quite fun to try and figure out how it works and outplay it.

Like leightoons said, I feel like a slower speed could really help the game, on some levels I just mashed keys to try to get it to do what I was wanting to, since the snake would sprint away too quickly for me to have time to do any meaningful inputs.

Developer

I am really sorry having a snake this fast ruined some of the intended gameplay. Sadly I didn't have time (nor a person) to playtest it, thus I set the difficulty too high up... I totally agree that there a many ways to improve the learming curve. I will not make this mistake another time.

Nonetheless, I'm glad you could still appreciate the main idea behind it. I really do need to improve my execution the next time if I want to win. :P

The snake's "instincts" can be really annoying to fight against, since when you are run into a wall you it sometimes forces you to go in whichever direction has priority, even if there is room to go the other direction without overlapping yourself or turning more than 90 degrees.

The snake would be a bit less painful to deal with if it was just a bit slower and didn't ignore my input when choosing which way to turn at a wall. Sometimes I know exactly how I need to maneuver him, but getting him to actually do it feels like trying to thread a worm that keeps squirming through the eye of a needle.

That being said, I actually really like this submission. It's a creative use of the theme and it's a clever puzzle mechanic that I can get behind. Just figured I'd nitpick a bit since all of the other comments were nothing but positive. Great submission!

I really appreciate the feedback and I'm glad someone pointed these problems out.

First of all, I knew (sadly, only after submitting) that the game is way harder than I meant it to be. Mostly because I spent a lot of hours making it, and thus getting familiar with how it works. After the jam, I will definitely slow down the snake.

I'm really sorry I didn't manage to communicate the snake's instincts well enough. Although I was more or less aware of this, I didn't really have time to fix it. This is mostly because of my poor time management.

However, most importantly, I'm really happy that you liked the game despite of its flaws. Seeing in-depth critics ending with "I like it" just feels amazing. Thank you!

This is incredibly original! I did get stuck at level 4,however, so even if i might suck at it, i can really appreciate this game! Well done!

Developer (1 edit)

No it's not like that. I didn't communicate how the AI works. If you got stuck just visit the home page. There you can find help.

I'm really glad you liked it! If you want to, give it another shot after looking at the thread at the bottom. :)

Amazing, this was your first game with Godot, right?! :-O This is a really nice game with some funny changes to the original snake game. At some level I got stuck by accident, where the "food" spawned in a corner of an arrow which I could not reach xD

Developer (2 edits)

Food isn't necessary, every level can be completed without picking up a single one. But I know I didn't really do a great job communicating the mechanics, so it's understandable you got stuck. You can get a little help on the store page, though. :) And since the game saves, you can continue where you left off :D

Also, thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate it! :)

Nice twist, combined with good game design. Overall an interesting and very playable game.

This could have been on a real Nokia.

Developer

I'm really glad you liked it; and that it fit the Nokia jam well! :)

I like the instincts of the snake, I tried for 10 minutes to kill the snake in endless mode but nope!

Nice game, good job.

Developer

That is why it's endless mode. :D Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! :)
