Nice Job! this game has potential, kinda has Castlevania vibes because of the eyes monsters.

Awesome entry, very adaptive play style and love the graphics

Could have a better onboarding on the game mechanics and the vibe would have been completely set with some 8bit audio loop but overall really good joob! :D

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it!

I'm a bit confused though as the lack of music has been mentioned in another comment, is there actually no music at all during the gameplay?

Because I did make 2 tracks for the game, one for the main menu and one for the actual game, and I'm wondering if it might be a bug? Or maybe your music volume was set to the minimum for some reason? If there is any info you can give me about this I would really appreciate it so I can fix the issue!

When I first played the game, I thought the glasses were just for splash damage and didn't do much. After reading the description and how to play (great itch page by the way) everything made sense, good job!

This is such a unique entry. The mechanics are cool, makes you switch up your tactics and balance your play style. As others have pointed out, this would be even better if there was some form of pacing as the player needs time to get used to the mechanics and get good. I only ever get a high score of 11. Also, some music would add a lot to the vibe of this game.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I definitely think I could have focused more on the pacing instead of the difficulty being rather linear, unfortunately I was running out of time.

As for the music, there is actually some music, maybe your volume was set to the minimum for some reason?

The gameplay is so unique and creative! I admit the mechanics were a bit overwhelming to begin with, but they definitely make sense and provide depth and a learning curve. That makes the game exciting to learn and pull of skillful combos :))

Man glasses mechanics are spot on its out of the box and fun to play. Maybe you could make some progressive difficulty so player can get used to controls and feel and climb his way to high score. You polished it rly good!

yoo love the game!!! amazing work! the graphics are so smooth and polished! my highscore was 11!

i noticed that in many of the rounds when i throw the glasses and try to shoot it, the enemies block the shot and prevent me from shooting the glasses which ends up in me dying, maybe u can reinforce the mechanic by making the gun only shoot the glasses

also jumping on the glasses is quite hard to do on the fly so the fact that it doesnt do damage kinda sucks, but i do understand that ppl might just keep jumping and camping on the glasses, maybe the first jump will do more damage and subsequent jumps can do lesser and lesser

also loved how u can throw the glasses into the air and press right click to get yeeted into the glasses! do wish there was a way i can trickshot these enemies by throwing the glasses right after, but they dont get damaged just by getting hit by the glasses

also the enemies felt too strong, i feel like they should be much weaker against the hit while visible, thatll be a fun mechanic!

Thank you! This is some really good feedback here!

I really like the idea of the gun shooting the glasses, I think there could be something really cool here (like a sub-shot automatically aiming for the glasses or something, similar to Morty in Multiversus).

And jumping on the glasses should deal damage, maybe you were victim of a bug? In my case it always deals damage to the enemies around.

I'll see what I can do if I keep working on the game after this jam, thank you again for the great feedback and ideas!

the jumping is strange i dont know, even if it dealt damage it feels like it does too little damage to justify jumping on the glasses as its a huge risk, also on the auto aim thing i think it kinda removes skill from the game so maybe it just passes through enemies and goes in a straight line instead! and you're welcome!

wow i like how you put your idea for the special object !! I like the glasses mechanic !! Good job !

Thanks a lot!

Firstly- my current record is 11!

Secondly- my opinion about this game went from "this is gonna be annoying" to "this is pretty difficult, but has surprising amount of  depth" in few rounds! I like how, even when you throw your glasses, there's a small effect when enemies spawn. I like that, even in just a few rounds, I started to try out new tactics. I like the presentation (graphics and sound) that go for the mind 90's retro feel, and nail it!

Hell, I like the way you used glasses in your game, and that it's a kind of a street fight!

There are just two things I'd change.

1. It would be cool if there was... more! More enemies, more weapons, more levels. If the endless mode was an additional thing.

2. Autofire on the gun would be sooo nice. I'd prefer to hold the mouse button, than clicking all the time, especialy, when there's no ammo limit, and there's almost no point to not be shooting most of the time :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I put a lot of efforts into making the game not annoying despite the concept, so I'm glad it worked out!

And seriously, I really wish I could have added more! I thought I would have the time for at least more enemies, but it was my first time using Godot and I had to figure out all the export stuff, which took me more time than I would have liked it to. If people like the game, I'll definitely keep working on it! And that would totally include a hold-to-shoot option, or even an auto-fire option.

If you ever make a bigger version, I'll gladly check it out!

This game's concept is incredible! You always have to balance between not dying and seeing your enemies! Love the art too!

Developer

Thank you, I'm really glad you're enjoying the concept! What's your highscore?

Submitted

My highscore is 12. Can't say I'm particularly good at these games considering I'm primarily an RPG player xD

Developer

Hey that's actually really good I think!

Really creative mechanics, I like the graphics,  I wish I have something to be more powerful in this game, because later there so many monsters

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I wish I could have added some kind of upgrades to the game too, but that was out of the scope for this Game Jam.

If people like the game enough, that's definitely something I'll consider!
