Use of the limitation
The rubber duck you control fires off a miniature version of itself surrounded by a bubble towards the enemy. Originally before the limitation was announced I was thinking up plans to have the rubber duck fire off bubbles at the enemies but the announcement of the limitation ended up giving me an even better idea for the ammo!

How was your experience with Mini Jam?
It's the first Jam I've joined and I enjoyed myself quite a bit. The theme and the limitation were pretty fun to figure out how to build a game around them.

That's a really cool game, especially for the first jam game! Some small issues, but overall, it was quite fun, well done!

(Shameless self promotion)
I played the game on stream and just shared my experience while playing, so if you want to see that, you can find it here:

Really nice game - duck vs. battleships is a great (and definitely novel!) concept, and I like how crazy it gets once it really gets going. Glad that I read through the comments to learn that you'd added a mouse sensitivity slider, as the default was way too sensitive for me but once adjusted it controlled really well. Would potentially benefit from a crosshair at the centre to help me aim if you were to update this :)

A really chaotic and fun experience. Wasn't expecting a duck to take on a few hundred battle ships, but it was great fun lol. Some sfx and music could've topped it off, but otherwise the only main issue is the camera controls. They're incredibly janky and make aiming difficult.

But otherwise I really love the idea of having to swim around and find the baby ducks, white dodging an endless barrage of bullets!

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! The camera is something I want to work on, it seems to vary for people so it's janky for some and fine for others and I need to figure out why that is!

Fun game. The Bullets are sometimes difficult to see or doge. You can add some highlights for bullets. Liked the camera and lighting.

Developer

Thanks for playing! That's not a bad idea, they're prototype assets so they've definitely got the potential to improve.

Really cute duck characters and nice bathtub environment. This was a fun game that I really enjoyed, great work!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! The ducks were something I found on the Unity asset store so I knew that they needed to be here as soon as I saw them.

Seriously a super fun game. One of the only ones that I couldn't stop playing. I really like how you put in the extra effort to make it 3D, and the controls were really easy to learn. It was lacking a bit of polish though with music and sfx.

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy to hear that you had fun with this, I don't like making things more complicated than they need to be so I made the controls as intuitive and easy to pick up as I could!

The game is clearly laking sounds and music, some particle effects for juicy effect etc etc...
But taking that apart it's a very good concept !! Implemented well, and very enjoyable. Not easy but hey...I had fun !
For a first game jam it's awesome, for the next one, keep in mind juicy effects and music/sfx and you'll have a really reaalllyy good game !

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! Adding in sound is definitely something I want to work in the future.

I liked the game, too bad there is no sfx, nor music and that we cannot throw the ducks on the boat (at the same time it is totally the opposite of the goal of the game), why are there boats trying to kill baby ducks? The developer of this game is a hell of a sadist towards animals xD, in any case congratulations for finishing this game on your own :D

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy to hear you liked it, animal sadism aside!

I get in game like, "Oh cool where are the ships?" turn around and all those suckers are right on my butt haha. Fun game! I really liked it. The green bubble ducky lock on shot is a life saver.

Developer (1 edit)

I'm glad to hear you liked this! The first iteration I had of the lock on ducky used to mercilessly hunt down every enemy, even chasing them down on the other side of the bathtub so I toned it down a bit.

nice concept but the camera was a little jolty - made me sea sick :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah I was worried about something like that, thanks for your feedback! I added a mouse/camera sensitivity option initially but I'll look into other ways to improve the camera.
