Very nice aesthetic! Gameplay felt a little bit too slow, but overall enjoyable. I loved the gameplay reconstitution, it really breathes the life into the vision.
Sprites are neat and the sound is good! It would be cool for there to be some sort of animation of defeating the king.
Thank you so much!!
If you want, I did a fake gameplay video, in which you can see what the game should have look, and there are a kind of "defeat the king animation" and a victory screen (you can see better the animation in my last Instagram post too)

And you can find the music here ;) :

THAT MUSIC
You can find it here ! (we didn't make it :') )

Oh man those sprites are so cool!
Thank youuu!! Here is a "fake" gameplay done on After Effects, in which i setted the art as we intended during the jam (we couldn't implemented everything well at time) :)

Extremely cool art direction and premise! Though it's unfortunate that you ran out of time for animations, and the gameplay was pretty bare-bones. Could be cool to see the game expanded with different chess-based enemies with different movement/detection mechanics.
I totally agree :) I thought of having knights that jump as there movement, but did not have time to problem-solve and implement.
Thanks!!
(here is a link to a "fake" gameplay of the game, in which the art is setted as we intended (we couldn't implemented everything well at time), and the animations are more visible on my last post on instagram) https://youtu.be/CmdOYf9AABY
Yes, it would have been more interesting to have different behaviors depending specific to eac kind of chess pieces!
Very nice 2D art and colors, good job!
I was able to hide behind tuck wheels pressing down arrow, but there's not much more to do...just hide, wait for the soldiers watch, keep walking and hide again until you reach king. I feel the amount of time you have to be hidden is to much, maybe next levels are more challenging and you can work on more ideas!
Thank you for your feedback!!
The game was intentionnally done as "non-ambitious", because it was our first game jam working with someone else, our goal was only to finish the game in time, no matter it was specially fun or interesting :)
I don't think we will work on this game again, but I totally agree with you that it deserves to have more complex mechanics (like different behaviors for each type of chess pieces , for example), etc etc
A few issues that I encountered on my short playthrough:
Maybe you should introduce mechanics when they come into play, and let the player figure them out through visual clues.
The art for this game is fantastic very 'Alice in wonderland' in aesthetic. The sound effects lend themselves well to the gameplay and the atmosphere is fantastical and somewhat mysterious. Good visuals and animation in general. But maybe look into the gameplay elements to ensure that everything works :)
I had the same problems too
I also thought the controls didn't work at first because I used the WASD keys instead of the arrow keys. That may be your problem!
Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the 'hiding' mechanic is not fully explained, it does not explain that you must hide behind an object. Oops yes i suspect there are a few sound bugs.
Thank you for your feedback!! I'm glad you like the chosen musics and sound effects (i thought the sound FX are kinda "cheap") and that a nice atmosphere emerges; i guess it the whole (including the visuals) gives a kind of 2000s RPG Maker games vibe or something like that x)
