I liked the game, felt like it did a good job at integrating the theme. I sucked at it so I didn't get too far but I liked the idea of a text based adventure with a graphical aspect as well.

Developer

Thank you for checking it out! Hopefully someday I can take it furter and improve the difficulty curve :]

Submitted(+1)

Don't worry about the difficulty curve, the others seemed to do well at it so no need to make it easier just cause I suck at it! Definitely continue developing it though I think it has potential

Very interesting idea and realization. Thank you for a great game. I loved it. You got to think 2 steps ahead like chess :D Also, I've heard that there are short commands but I didn't find them, so if it isn't a secret or easter egg you could give them in "help". Good job!

Developer

Thank you! And yea, there are shortcuts, but they’re not written anywhere :P Any direction can be shorted to just its first letter, or can be replaced by an arrow in the appropriate direction (i.e. “move ^” “turn v” etc. etc.)

Very fun way to make a rather small level feel huge! Had a great time with this game, really made me think. I was glad when a few of my assumptions for the commandline shorthands actually worked! I would love it if they were shortened even more to things like "m f" and "t r"

Developer

Thank you! I thought about doing that but at the moment, my command input system doesn’t have an easy way to deal with aliases. But may be worth the extra effort if I put any more work in to this!

As others pointed out, the game could have stood to be a bit more self-explanatory, but I really, really like the concept, and the way it's "turn-based" makes for interesting strategizing.

Developer

Thank you!

okay tHIS IS ACTUALLY YOUR FRIEND WREN LMAO
i really like heist games so i really liked the concept of this one! i thought the hacking the cameras so that they couldnt detect you was pretty cool, thats honestly not a feature i see implemented that much? i thought it was v creative
ik this is just a game jam but i do have suggestions, like the other wren said i didnt realize you could shorten the commands until i watched your dev video, so maybe put that in description or the help command? honestly just some notes abt the game would make it a lot easier to navigate, like the goal i think was fairly obvious but i didnt know immediately that you could hack the cameras without being next to them, how many paintings there were, and again abt the commands. and also the guards but you fixed that lol

anyway im hella proud of you and this was a great entry esp for the time limit!

Cool entry! I managed to get all 9, not sure if this is intentional but I think hiting up or down when view a camera locks it in place, if this is intentional maybe have a lock icon in the corner of the view so its more clear when locked. Had alot more fun when I learned about that maybe glitch. I like the turnbased approach and there really isnt enough heist games this jam so good job! This system seems like it would have been a pain to set up so I applaud you.

Some suggestions tho, maybe for just the movement you could have buttons in the bottom left corner for turning and advancing, movement gets tedious pretty fast even as a fast typer and maybe some music although thats not the easiest in jam time.

Really really cool entry, had fun, managing the cameras and typing "Hack cam_0" was pretty fun in a movie hacker way. I kinda glad the guard didnt work cause if the freezing the camera in place wasnt intentional then I can see that being really challenging to clear.

Good stuff! fantastic work. I like the paintings too :3

Oh, interesting! That is indeed a bug, and a weird one at that - my code doesn’t even reference up and down haha And yeah, moving a titch tedious, I did add shortcuts for movement but I didn’t call them out anywhere - any direction can be shortened to its first letter or to the corresponding arrow (<, >, v, or ,^)

I’m really glad you enjoyed! Thank you so much for checking it out, and congrats on getting all of them - that’s better than I’ve managed to accomplish :P

Cool idea! I love the idea of a real time text adventure.  it would've been nice to have shorter commands though like zork, I found it annoying to have to type out 'move forward so many times haha. And it was difficult to tell what I was supposed to be doing kinda. I died to the first camera 3 times, then immediately died to the second camera on my fourth run. I'm not sure what hacking is supposed to do either. it would be cool to be able to pull up a map or something to see where cameras are pointed and where I'm supposed to go and stuff.

As I said though, really nice concept, very original!

Developer (1 edit)

Yes, sorry, I never had time to make the tutorial, though the description mentions this - you can press tab to pull up a map, and use the “help” command to view all commands. Also, the move and turn shortcuts can be shorted to just the first letter, so “move forward” and “move f” are equivalent statements. Also, once you have a camera hacked, you can use the “view” command to control that camera until you press escape. Be warned, though - when you’re viewing a camera, the game resumes running in real time rather than running for a moment every time you enter a command

Great idea, also the graphics are awesome, very old school, I like that! The idea is good, not enough games use terminals as gameplay elements, but it really can add something to a game. The lack of sound is too bad, that could add a lot to the game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I really wanted to get sound, but I was already working on such a tight schedule as I only had Saturday and a small part of Sunday to work on it, and the mechanics were so difficult to get implemented.
