Very nice, especially for the first jam. I was impressed and drawn in by the graphics, the sound effects and animations were spot on. The controls were OK, shooting took some time to get used to.
I didn't manage to go very far - the transitions between the rooms disoriented me, I couldn't find my way out of the first few rooms. Decided to jump into space obstructed by some bushes, just to see if I'd find a secret exit there - then I appeared in the middle of some room with spikes to the right (and a trampoline mooshroom in the middle). I could not make it neither by the closed door on the right or the wall o the left.
I would definitely spend more time on a version with bigger areas, or at least with a less eager camera, it's a great material for SMVM.
Here's a recording of gamplay and my feedback!
Well done submitting for your first game jam! You got a crap ton done for your first time, way more than I did in my first jam (lololol that was a total disaster). I'd love to see you add more for game feel. GMTK has a great video on how to do this.
Good game! The artwork features well-done animations and backgrounds. I see potential if you keep updating the game for SMVM. Adding music, additional abilities, and a variety of enemy types would enhance this game. I also suggest adding feedback messages when unlocking abilities. I didn't realize I unlocked double jump for a bit. Solid entry overall. Great job!
Very cute little crocodile, shooting mechanics is interesting in terms of adjusting to calculating the arc, but I miss some feedback on how much power to the shot I have put. Nevertheless, good job!
Very pleasent to play, it is very nice if you are new as a dev; keep going in this way.
There are some minors issue, like camera iper-responsive, but the game itself is very enjoyable and I want to see your progress in the 3 months metroidvania jam.
One last thing, when you change room th healthbar it fills itself, even your health is still the same.
Congratulation, it was a very nice experient and chill experience
Playing the game BSOD-Crashed my work laptop (serves me right for playing games instead of working ;) )but I love the graphics style, movement was nice and responsive too
That's certainly distressing to hear. I'm fairly new to game dev stuff so I've genuinely no idea what would cause that.
Hey I played this earlier but forgot to rate and comment...understandably incomplete since this is for SMVM, but I'll highlight what I thought was really enjoyable - I think shooting is done well here. I like how it feels, I like the gravity and ping-pong effect on the projectile. It's the root mechanic of what could be a really fun game. I did feel that the player moved a little too fast for ease of control - that's only me, so check with others. Maybe the platforms are too small for the player to move comfortably.
My only advice as time goes on till SMVM is to make sure you keep things in scope, and don't skimp on a narrative to keep the player engaged. You don't need 10 more mechanics - a nice shooting mechanic is actually good enough. Instead, focus on a couple of other simple abilities, then work on other elements of gameplay.
All the best for SMVM!
Really good job! The art is really cute and I like the little alligator (crocodile?)! The controls were pretty good, although I am playing in browser and on laptop so I had to manage the trackpad, but thats more of a me issue. Great job!
This is a sweet little game and really good quality for your first game jam! The art and audio ambience is so relaxing it's almost therapeutic in a way. I played it till the end, controls were simple but really smooth. Would have been cool to have a small crosshair for the slingshot but just food for thought. I liked the way you incorporated the hidden passageways. After discovering the first one it really made my want to play the game till the end , bc the Metroidvania essence of freedom of exploration was well embodied. The little secret was cool, but would have been nice to get a reward at the end, like literally anything just for the sake of it.
P.S Any feedback towards our game would be super appreciated too, if you get the time ofc!
