Really great concept, I can definitely see it being a lot of fun once you're able to start grabbing other territories. As others have said there are some UI issues, in particular I ended up with so many cards that I could no longer click the Next Turn button. I think are also some balancing issues as I had huge amounts of water but struggled to get enough food.

I also noticed a little bug on the Hydroponics card (I think), it said I couldn't afford it despite it giving me 5 food, not costing 5 food.

Thanks! Annoying it has so many bugs lol, I had thought i fixed the card bug issue with the new version I posted.. Definitely looking to fix all the bugs mentioned.

Game is definitely not balanced at the moment yes, I will be adding a trading mechanic in a shop which will allow for converting one resource type to another.

The idea of the game is very unique and it is also very beautiful brought to a screen, there are a few bugs though. A few turns i wasnt able to click the next turn button because it was blocked by cards and i reached 2205 but i didnt get a next objective. Great game that just needs a little fine tuning, I love it!!! keep up the great work on this game, i really enjoyed it! :D

Developer(+1)

Lol you reached 2205?!?! Yes I need to add a lot more intermediate objectives (and a win screen for 2205 ^^)

Thanks so much for the feedback! Yes I will be continuing to add stuff and fix bugs 🔥🔥

Great concept and start. I’d totally try this again after the below comments are addressed. The embed was overflowing my screen with the itch.io user interface on top. I solved this by zooming out my browser to 75%. Try changing the settings on your game page for this to open fullscreen when started, or provide a download next time. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot for the positivity!
Ahh so the fullscreen option fixes the issue for HD monitors, great! Added that as an option now, hopefully that fixes the issue you encountered.

I think I've fixed the bugs mentioned in the comments now with my most recent upload, however I have updated the disclaimer at the start of the game to be more clear, there is actually not any proper gameplay to speak of yet!

I need another month.. or 2.. of developing out a few more core systems, namely the shop and the council options where there will be some degree of randomly selected things to choose from, and of course the ability to unlock & control multiple regions.

Had the water not positive problem with +2 water production, apart from that seems a good concept, the potential of multiple regions to balance etc is very high

Developer

Yep balancing is going to be a bit of a challenge! Luckily I'm distracted by code for now XD

Thanks for the comment

What the other reviewer said, a good "my first game". Neat idea, has some of the basics there (an intro, sound, the basic functionality). I thought I had gotten water positive when it told me I lost the game :( and yeah, lots of confusing messages/errors after that (multiple pop-ups saying I was or was not water positive back to back).

Minor tip, but make the text automatically finish loading so it's easy to read, before you let someone skip it. Other than that, I understand the basics of the game but a more guided tutorial and improved visuals/UI will help for sure.

Developer

Thanks for the review!

Okay yes that bug will be next on my list to fix, whoops. It checks for success & failure on the same frame and shows both popups rather than just success.

Thanks, thats a good tip about the text & skipping, I think I will actually cut the big text intro at the start and leave it up to the smaller reporter dialogue as its way too much text dumped. But will follow that advice when I animate the reporter's text.

Good "my first game" game :)

It seems like you can win by just playing all the cards every turn (except for the mine, which generates too much pollution).

Also the game become unplayable pretty fast: you cannot enter research because the events bar overflows over it, and your hand cannot handle more than 4-5 cards and freaks out.

Developer

Thanks! :)

Yes I will be working on fixing the discard / hand draw bug next, it's an annoying bug I have been putting off / ran out of time to fix before this submission. Thanks for letting me know about the events bar overflowing, thats fixed locally now.

Hopefully by the next Marathon Jam I will have got all the major systems done & bugs fixed and I can focus on balance + more objectives.

Great start to a game! I wasn't clear on what to do at first (there was a lot of walls of text tutorials and I skipped a few hehe)  I got to research 10 and unlock a new area, but could only interact with Baldur.   Since it's such a unique game, perhaps a more visual tutorial would help new players a lot, or even a mini step by step level to get the basics.  Keep working on it, it's a cool idea~  Please check out my Hollow Knight inspired Metroidvania game when you have time :D

Developer

Hey thanks so much for playing and the helpful review.

Yes definitely will be making the tutorials more dynamic and not just a wall of text in the future!

I ran out of time to finish everything I had planned, so not a lot of gameplay available in v0.1 ^^"

I'll play your game this evening, sounds cool!
