Atheniann has already offered better feedback than I ever could! This game has a lot of potential and the effort put into this really shows. Keep it up c:
I think the visuals on this game are brilliant. It's a bit frustrating to play, but as Sigmation mentioned, I think having the control with the player is important. When you lose in a Foddian it's like "it's entirely your own fault and not the game's fault." I like this game, and it has a pretty interesting premise.
the problem with this game lies in the gameplay. I would recommend letting the player shoot when they want with a cooldown instead of having it file in random intervals. I added an element of RNG in my game and now regret it because it takes to much control away from the player. This game has a fun idea And fits the theme very well, and your over all the art is good and the sound is good . nice job
I feel as though the only redeeming aspect of this game is the title and thumbnail. What stops this game from being great is the movement, in general I think what makes something fun in a fodian aspect is not the lack of control on the player but how the character interacts with its environment instead.
Overall: Awful controls, mechanics need work and the aesthetic of the actual game also needs work
I'd like to respectfully disagree on the fundamental criticisms here. Other than it being quite rude to criticize in this way, I think adding an element of randomness and reactive play to a niche genre that's traditionally based on slow/methodical environmental interaction is a very interesting layer and commendable in its own right-- dictating what is acceptable or "fun" in a genre is how genres stagnate. I also very much appreciated the visuals; the brilliant red, and the integration of the UI into the game's theme was a very nice touch!
I do agree with the others that the movement feels unwieldy, but I also think 90% of that confusion can be solved with better telegraphing. Having some kind of tell when the sniper is about to go off, or on the velocity that the player will be launched, would do wonders. Overall, I think the game has a lot of potential. Keep up the good work!
You're right, my response does come off a little disrespectful, likely due to poor word choice and I deeply apologize to the developer for my response.
With that in mind I would like to reinforce my main point of contention which was the controls, I get what you're talking about atheniann but usually acts of randomness happen in the environment rather then the character as often it becomes difficult to find the right kind of randomness that doesn't become uncomfortable to play with if it affects character controls. If you made the character walk faster and crouch/uncrouch faster that could improve to overall ergonomics of the main mechanic.
Opinion: A good fodian game should make the player believe that it was their fault and their sole reason for losing was their own intuition.
the menu and title screen look real good. being blunt the movement is really slow and underwhelming like alot of other comments pointed out the movement system overall has potential but in its current state i think it needs a lot of work. my only other complaint is that the crouch has that long ass startup, literally just take it out and make it instant trust me ive been there less is more, also the sniper shot needs more feedback its really hard to tell when the sniper hitbox happens I've found myself getting up from a crouch into the shot many times. keep making games man you got some potential!
Love the title art and the movement mechanic is interesting!
nice
