Themes
My end project didn't turn out to take the themes into account as much, though the themes definitely got the ideas flowing! Having so many was also really nice because it let me move on from a theme if I felt like the ideas were running dry.

Tools
I used godot and aseprite. Aseprite was perfect, godot takes a lot of finesse to get to work in such a low resolution and to make it pixel perfect, but it felt like it was worth it.

Lessons
Absolutely! This is probably the most complex game I've coded on my own and all the things that I've had to learn during the duration of this jam will probably help me a lot in the future. It's also nice to look at what I got done versus other week long jams I've done in the past. This is leagues better and it makes me feel happy to have quantifiable progress in my skills.

I had a borderline religious experience with this game. Its mechanics and control scheme feel so natural and intuitive that I'd sooner believe this game was brought into existence by the universe itself, not made by a human for a game jam. When the screen flooded with UFOs peppering my robot with their hateful bullets, I felt a deep, wistful sadness that I usually only feel at the end of The Iron Giant. 11/10

Also if you haven't heard of it, you should check out Libble Rabble:

Also if you want to witness my religious experience, I streamed it along with a bunch of other games from the jam (yours is at 1:10:10):

It's so awesome to see footage of someone playing it! I'm planning on possibly making some adjustments post jam so I'll definitely be using this as important data :p. Also that game looks awesome! It's giving me lots of ideas.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm a huge space-head so this game was a bit of a self-indulgence but I'm glad it connected with you. :>

High score 88, and this is AWESOME! It took me too long to realise that I could move my hands at the same time as eating and could’ve set up the next meal much quicker, and then I was flying! With some sound effects and music, this would be killer. Bloody well done!

88 is pretty good! Fun fact: I actually set up the score numbers to go all the way up to a few trillion, though I don't think I realized how impossible of a task that was lol.

Yeah like many of my solo-dev projects I was unable to add sound to this one in time, but I can imagine it would really bring the whole thing together! I plan on maybe making some adjustments and adding some more stuff in the future but I'm also going into my senior year of college so we'll have to see :p

Thank you so much for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :]

I enjoyed the idea behind the game! I think that the polish items the others in your comment section are mentioning are vital to this games success. One thing I noticed was that I couldn't prevent myself from taking damage when I was eating enemy ships. I'm not sure if I missed some way to use that hands to do that or not, but I definitely think the game has potential. It made me more ambidextrous.

The concept of the game is incredibly fun.

One thing that could improve the experience is having the camera follow the robot's head, rather than needing to manually re-focus. Also, just having sound effects for some stuff would've elevated the game even more.

would love to know what the game generation actually holds it piqued my interest.

Wow, cool concept. But... it needed some more work around - because when I played I was just moving both magnets equally and it makes game too easy. In my opinion It would be great and more difficult/challenging to make one of the magnets movements in reverse (when you press W it goes down and vice versa). I was not struggling  with Camera movements and took it as the game's feature. Great concept, fun to play, unfortunately no sounds.

P.S. check https://www.beepbox.co/ very easy tool to make music and sound effects. I used it to create music and sound effects for my game.

Thanks! Yeah this is the most complex game I've made and it took me a while so I had to pass on adding sound. I'd definitely do that if I were to make any post jam changes, and thank you for the suggestion! :> I'll also definitely consider reversing the controls of one, I also think adding asymmetry by making each have different functions may add to the difficulty and play to the strengths of the control scheme. It's definitely something I'll have to consider! Thank you for playing and for your feedback! :>

super fun concept, love the ability to move / control the robot using WASD + Arrows for each hand. I am curious how much of the world you are generating since it seems to take a good 10 secs to load up the world! I thought I was doing pretty good but every playthrough I quickly became overwhelmed by 10 enemy ships, I couldn't eat them fast enough before dying - I guess you could call that a failure on my part of cosmic proportions (see what I did there?!)

I wish the camera moved alongside the robot head rather than having me bring it into focus every time, and due to the lack of audio, I actually played through your game with the FTL soundtrack in the background, which was quite perfect :)

Now, I am ashamed to say I couldn't get passed 50 points despite playing for a good 15 minutes! That seemed really low and I'd love to see a small video of what a successful run looks like.

Anyways, great job on a fun little space game!

Hi Gad! I'm honestly impressed you got that far! I had set the enemies to do 100 damage so that they could kill me quickly while I was testing the game over screen and forgot to change it back. However I got permission to change it to the intended amount of damage, so if you want to give it another shot it should be much easier to get past 50 points!

Also, I generate around 700 stars in the playfield, which is why it takes a while to load. There's probably a more efficient way to generate the universe but this is my first attempt at random generation so it was a bit difficult for me lol.

Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

Just played Cosmic Proportions! The gameplay loop is super fun and addictive! The ability to control both different hand was super unique also! I had a little troubles with the camera but still super fun! Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah I had trouble figuring out how to make the camera work as well, having it move with the head was a bit disorientating and jumpy considering how the camera has to move 1 pixel at a time in order to keep the pixel perfect look of the game. I'll have to check out the other games to see what solutions were come up with!

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the feedback! :)
