Did you work in a team?
I made this project in Godot engine by myself. It was my first time completing any game so i certainly had a good time!

Was the resolution a challenge?
Creating sprites that expressed what I wanted them to and collisions were both areas where I felt challenged making this game.

What did you learn?
I entered the jam hoping that it would give me the structure that I needed to see a project through to completion. I also learned lots about the tools I was using, mainly Godot engine and Aseprite for assets

Nice platformer and very interesting level designs. Graphically it needs some uplifting but the game plays well and it’s fun to play. Nice variety of mechanichs in the platforming side, which is a good addition. Good job!

the jumping and exploration was enjoyable, I liked the way you built on the control with the puzzles. I didn't get too far, because it was just a tad harder than it should have been (I think). It would have been nice to have had time for a little more polish. The music was good, although the effects seemed a bit flat to me. Anyway for a first project this is a wonderful package, keep up the good work

This game looked pretty cool, but my right handed platforming skills just weren't up to the challenge. I think there were a lot of cool ideas here, but a little bit of refinement would go a long way.

Finishing a game during a jam is really tough, and this is a whole lot better than the first game I ever made. Super impressive for your first completed project, congrats on finishing!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I would love to use what I learned in this project to create something more refined next time! I would definitely like to spend a lot more time tuning the platforming and collisions. Thinking about a something a bit more metroidvania next time.

I really like what this is going for, but it feels rough in the wrong places. I'd love to see it again with a bit more refinement to movement and obstacles.

I played this game on stream, the vod is up at http://bit.ly/bean-stream

Developer

Thanks for playing! It really helped to check out the VOD and see where the pain points were. I've only had a couple of people be able to finish the game and I believe I'm the only one who has gotten all the coins haha. You make some good points!

This game is hard 😅 But I like the concept! I think you did a great job of creating different hazards and all these systems of doors. But the controls are a little finicky and the characters is quite big which makes him bump into every obstacle by accident. 😅 It would also have been better if every kind of hazard was introduced in a more safe way first. Keep it up, hope to see you in a future jam! 😊

Thanks for playing! I've gotten quite a bit of good feedback and hope to do another jam in the coming months!

I liked it, reminded me of Montezuma's Revenge with the way the character walks, climbing ropes and descending down. Visuals look great, dashing is an interesting game mechanic.

My only complaint is lack of checkpoints. Made me ignore all coins just to reach the ending in one piece (I did!). Perhaps instant deaths but few lives and starting at the beginning of the screen would be a better mechanic. Or leave the current health mechanic, but change it around a bit. In many spots the health pickups are in a very risky spot, I often lose two hearts just to get one.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback and congrats on finishing! Consensus seems to be that I made things a little too challenging this time around, but I learned a ton from this project!

Really enjoyed what I played :) Quit after getting annoyed with those buzzsaw pits - couldn't find a way to get out once I fell in haha.

Awesome job :D

Developer

Yeah I would have definitely liked to get those working a little bit better haha. They could be pretty punishing once you fall in. Thanks for playing though and I appreciate the feedback!
