Three button simple to master rally game the world needs! =) Looks epic, plays epic, feels full of content. At first I thought I have to switch the gearbox somehow. Then I realisied that’s not yet implemented - as well as the damage system. Still the controller and inertion makes it challenging and funny to beat the race.

Developer(+1)

There is an update coming with working gearbox and a bunch of other things that didn't make the deadline. Glad you liked and thanks for the feedback.

Fantastic. Just epic. Such a good job, total polish and finesse at every turn. I'd like free camera control with mouse or something, follow-cam etc but that's about the only critique I could offer. Well done lads.

Developer(+1)

Cheers kilted that’s very kind of you to say and much appreciated. There is a free camera mode in replay but we could look at adding it in game as well.  There will be a much improved version coming over the weekend.

Mind-Blowing. The graphics & unique style of control. Love it! Despite the few bugs here and there - the fact you guys were able to put this together in a 2 week timespan is incredible!
The outro really got me right in the feels!
Great work folks!

Developer(+1)

Thank you John,  I am very happy you like it.  We had a blast over the 2 weeks and brought back the feeling of the good old days of a looming deadline. The experience has been very rewarding and look forward to doing it again next year and doing something completely different.

I wasn't able to get it runnning unfortunately, if you have any Linux Tinker steps Please let me know (Or have a linux version elsewhere, DM me on something)

Developer

Hi Nano, sorry you couldn’t get to play it. We shall look into what it will take to get it working with Linux.

Brilliant presentation. Love the polish on the main menu alone. I think the default camera should be set to a third person view. Also would be nice to have an RPM indicator for gear shifting. Add in some slow-mo crashes and automatic replays and this would be as good as Burnout Paradise! Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks Occular. We have an update coming and you will be happy to hear that we have added and rpm meter to help you judge gear changes and prevent engine damage. We will have a look at third person camera.

Awesome. Looking forward to playing it. I spent some more time and found some weird stuff but please keep updating this, it’s a great entry and a fun ride!

What a beautiful looking game, had some issues with changing gear on keyboard but it looked so good I wasnt that bothered. you done yourselves proud proving how talented you both are! Jealous and impressed. Hope with some of the gear changing issue as pg up and down dont work just change camera haha :D love ya guys and also look forward to soooo much more!

Developer

Thanks Marcus. I saw you managed to find several bugs in double quick time. Busy beavering away on the fuxed version. The game was designed for a game pad but there are key controls but seems I missed adding a key for gears so that will be fixed. We will also make the first levels a bit more interesting, we just ran out of time to get it all working and properly tested :) Have to say hating watching people play a product I know has issues.

Well I saw past that and have a feel of the direction you were going so dont you worie I thought it was awsome!

Hi Tubby!

This one was certainly the most amazing looking and sound for mine!  Fully like a AA or AAA release in those aspects - I was blown away.

Unfortunately I couldn't get mouse or keyboard working properly, and I dont have a controller atm.  I did eventually figure out how to get the car to move with keyboard, but the camera angle was terrible and couldnt be changed.  Still - got to see a little of the track, and it was really nice.

Great looking car and physics, crowd, effects etc.  SO much potential!

Developer (1 edit)

Hey Ninjapus. Thank you so much playing the game and leaving feedback. We do have other camera angles which can be accessed using a controller using the L1 and R1 or Page Up and Page Down on the keyboard . Is there any particular angle you would like to see? We currently have the default rear 3/4 view (which does need to be adjusted as you don't see the car properly at the beginning), a side view and a helicopter chase view. There is also a mode in the game where you can set your own camera angle by pressing F1 where you can then set whatever angle and zoom you like. I do appreciate that these features are not obvious. I will update the instructions now to explain these better.

There will be an update coming on Saturday after the voting has closed and we shall make sure the cameras are improved and that keyboard and mouse control is working properly. We will also be adding an in game guide to help the player get the most from the game.

Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated.

Thanks Ninjapus for playing. Tony has updated the controls graphic for the camera key controls. Yeah the last minute rush we missed the default camera starting a bit far of target when the car is not moving, as you speed up though the camera does move to a better position. There are a fair few different camera views you can select with the Page Up/Down keys or trigger buttons on a pad. Or if you dont like any of those F1 will switch to a more traditional orbit/chase camera which you can position whereever you want.

The aim of the game was our take on a 2D Hill Climb game but with a bit more interesting visuals so the camera angle is a kind of hybrid between straight 2D side view and full 3d racing game camera.

Im having a hard time seeing how the game uses the theme. Controls were never explained and thus took a while to find and understand.

The game does look very nice. If I understand correctly, this is a port from your main project. honestly the gameplay may be a little too simple, I never had to avoid anything and only really pressed the go button and upshifit.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks Robots for the review and the compliment of thinking we just ported it :) I will add a section on the controls but it is basic driving controls. It is not a port of anything the only items that existed before the Jam were 2 car models and a tyre mesh builder. All the code, ui,  models and the game was created during the Jam :) The levels start simple to ease the player in, in the later levels the tracks get harder to drive and you have to judge your speed and jumps. In the final version you can swap lanes etc.

The game is our take on the Hillclimb genre which is just a simple drive in a straight line we just wanted to make it more interesting to look at.

The theme part is the car gets more and more damaged as you progress but will keep running, doesnt die on you. You will be able to repair and tune the car as you play to keep it alive. As the car gets more and more damaged more and more parts fall off etc.

Developer(+1)

Added an image above outlining the basic controls. Mouse will also work for the UI and if no game pad you can drive with the cursor keys as well.

Developer(+2)

Note: Curently this game is best played with a GamePad (ideally XBox controller, I will do an update as soon as I can to add more options, but mouse and cursor keys should do you till then)
