How does your game fit the theme?
Escape The Room takes place entirely within a single room. Players must navigate the confined space, avoid approaching ghosts, and find a hidden door to escape. The limited area encourages clever exploration and tense gameplay, fully embracing the “one room” theme.

Pretty fun little escape game that does a great job meeting the theme, nice entry!! The auto shooting mechanic was a cool design choice and I enjoyed being able to focus on moving around the room and searching for the exit while my potions took care of the baddies. Being able to quickly restart a run was nice too and helped me stay motivated to keep searching for the exit. The background music fits the intensity of the game play and the art assets work well in the environment you set up.

I think adding more levels or puzzle mechanics would help improve this game even more, but the foundation that you have already is a pretty fun idea. Another minor thing is that the secret door had a visual glitch that made it stand out from the rest of the room. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not but it made finding the exit fairly easy. Also, the UI doesn't really fit the aesthetic of the rest of the game and could use some improvement. Your interpretation of the theme was good, the limited size of the room is key to the gameplay and finding the exit out of this one room was fitting. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience with your game. Keep up the good work!!

edit: I also had the resolution issues that others in the comments did, the game window size is huuuuge.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed the game 😊. As you said, there could have been more added, but this was all I could manage within the limited time. I actually designed the door that way on purpose; I wanted it to be a little hint for finding the exit, appearing like a glitch. I’ll look into the resolution issue too, at least for my future games. Thanks again for playing and leaving a review!

The concept is really interesting and definitely fits the "one room" theme. The gameplay, though simple, has its charm. The fact that the door is random adds replayability, which is great. However, it’s good to do some extra checks to prevent the player from finding it too quickly haha.

Even though I was able to play your game, I encountered two main issues:

01. The game’s screen was excessively large. Even in fullscreen mode, there was still a significant portion of the side edges missing, which probably hurt the immersion a bit.

02. There were some texture bugs that I have no idea why they happened. Maybe incompatibility? They showed squares in lilac/purple/pink (not sure exactly which color, but it was close to one of these), almost like a visual glitch (or it was actually a visual glitch).

Even though I found the shooting a bit slow, I assume it was intentional to increase the sense of urgency and encourage the player to avoid the ghosts rather than fight multiple ones, right? If that's the case, it was a great move.

I also liked the easter egg, though I probably wouldn’t have found it without the instructions (but that might just be due to my own lack of skill).

The sounds matched the game well, and I’d say the overall aesthetic fits together nicely. I really liked the ghost designs; they’re fun (even though they’re killers haha).

Congrats on the game, and I wish you the best of luck in the jam!

Developer

Thank you for the detailed feedback! I believe the screen scaling issue comes from resolution differences, since I didn’t have this problem on my device. The lilac/purple texture glitches are probably missing materials; another player reported the same issue, but it never appeared for me. I intentionally kept the fire rate low so the player focuses more on escaping rather than fighting :) I’m really glad you liked the ghosts 👻 Thanks again for playing and leaving a comment!

Nice game this one I can complete glitch out of room.

Developer

Actually, this is not a glitch — it was designed as a secret door :) Since the door location is randomized in each run, the flicker was intentionally added as a hint. Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

This game is.... interesting. The automatic potion throwing range is kinda short and since the damage is also quite little the ghost have bigger chance to catch me up even when i shoot them. Also I don't know if it's just me but some art are like this (see the picture below) Perhaps you can check it out, if it was problem on my end then it's fine. Also i didn't realized the door was to finish the game at all XD. A good game nonetheless. Good job!

Developer(+1)

I didn’t encounter the visual issue, and no other players reported it, but I’ll still check it. (In this case, I think you probably missed the easter egg 👻 The easter egg was in the pink cube on the right (it was supposed to be a wardrobe)) Regarding not noticing that the door ends the game, I realized the in-game instructions should be clearer; just writing it in the description wasn’t enough. Thank you for playing and leaving your feedback!

I gotta admit- the secret door glitched a bit, so I saw it :)

The idea for the game was cool, but I think a bit more things to do would help. Maybe if I had to do a couple of things before I could escape (of course, being chased by ghosts)?

Developer (1 edit)

I actually made the secret door visible on purpose once you get close enough; that was intentional :) Adding a few tasks before escaping would definitely have been nice, but with the time limit this was the most I could do. Thanks for playing! (Curious if you discovered the Easter egg! 🤭)

Loved the music and style of the game. The creepy environment with the cute ghosts gives the game a unique feel. Couldn't really figure out what to do (would've loved more feedback on my actions) but still enjoyed it

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and the ghosts :) I had written the gameplay in the game story, but you’re right—it would have been good to include it in-game too. Thanks for playing!

So um, I finished the game in one second T_T. It's a cool concept but it has potential to be better by adding other stuff so the door finding isn't completely luck based but other than that cool game!

Developer(+1)

The door is random, so finishing it that fast can happen :) Thanks for playing!

OH that makes a lot more sense! But ay cool game I like the ghost design its so goofy

Submitted(+1)

game was way too hard. the potion was too weak for the amount of ghosts, nice use of assets, the room was well decorated and also i love the fact that the ghosts doesn't collide with anything as they are ghosts

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked the decoration and the ghosts :) I didn’t want it to be too easy — you need to survive to find the hidden door. By the way, watch out for the wardrobe 👀👻!
