I like how the different collectables serve different purposes. It feels really good to throw that pizza slice and see a big portion of the boss's health disappear! I like the bullet hell mechanics, but it's very hard and unforgiving. It looks like touching even one pixel of those letters is enough to hurt me. Combine that with low HP, small invincibility, and no way to regen health, and it can feel frustrating for some players.  I would rather have more projectiles and smaller hitboxes to make the game feel more fair.

I also didn't like using the F key to grab since I had to either take one finger off the movement keys or place my thumb in an uncomfortable way. Using the space or LShift key would be far more comfortable in my opinion.

Here is my little speedrun of the game :)

Okay this one is actually a funny but frustrating game XD, cool pixel art and sfx is really on point! the gameplay can be a bit confusing without any tutorial, i didn't realized i need to hit the paper until i'm on my 4th death.  Also the game can be a bit smaller even if i use the fullscreen on itch.io. Perhaps you can tone down the difficulty because the longer it is, the harder it seems still considering the memes, jobless is not an option in this economy thus the difficulty in the game XD Well done!

Fun idea, maybe missing a little more feedback when you take damage. Cool entry !

I liked the idea — fighting off unwanted job offers with pizza and chips 🍕😄. Fun but very challenging. Good job!

Your game is soo fun to play but really hard if you toned the difficulty abit little bit, but i love your game keep going man

Thanks for playing :>

I agree that the game is probably a bit difficult because not many people have beaten it so far T-T but I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

The art style and bullet hell mechanics reminded me a lot of Undertale. After my seventh attempt, I defeated the boss three or four times—and then died.

I found it easiest to circle, avoiding the pizza and sodas, while spamming the hell out of the crisps. I was also gutted when I raced the boss, thinking I was going to get a reprieve, but it immediately jumped into the next dangerous wave.

I swear, some of the hitboxes felt unforgiving. I thought I dodged, got hit anyway, realised I got hit, and then got hit again. But thanks to the fast-paced nature of the game, it wasn’t really a problem—I was back in another run within seconds.

I have to ask, is there an actual ending to this game, or is it endless?

Great submission! I don’t usually like bullet hell games, but this one was genuinely enjoyable.

Thanks for playing :D

I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^ and yes there is an ending scene when the boss is defeated :p (after you beat the third phase T-T) I wish I tuned the difficulty a little bit so that more people can reach it lol

Developer

If you wanted to see the ending without beating the game I just posted a walkthrough of the game on the itch.io page :D

I had so much fun with this! I love bullet hells!

The theme is on point, the art is stylish and cohesive, and there's a bit of dry humor to it all that just tickled me.

My only complaint is the lack of music during play. And is there a hard end to the game? I successfully defeated three job applications before I was forcibly employed.

Major props!

This is a super cool game!
Firstly the visuals, I have to say they look super polished and all the extra effects like camera shake, transitions, and animations felt super good.
Now the gameplay, I find it so funny that you actually fight the job application letter which made me laugh at the start and I think that's a super creative idea! The attacks are pretty cool and while they are repetitive and could use some more variety I think it's still amazing for a game jam.
This game has a lot of potential, a few abilities / upgrades could go a long way to giving this game a lot more depth.
Don't know if there's an end to the game cause I drained the boss bar health 2 times but nothing happened.
But other than that a very enjoyable game! I had fun playing it

I'm glad you liked it and yes there is an ending ! There are three phases to the boss and if you drained the health bar one more time (which may be challenging xD) you can see the ending :p

Submitted

Ahhh maybe add a visual indicator for phases! (Unless you already did then I'm blind so that's my fault)

Developer

Good idea ! No you're not blind there is currently no way to tell which phase of the boss you're on :( unless you pay attention to the attacks (the boss shoots more projectiles and spawns more enemies with each phase).

General:

Congratulations on your submission! I especially like the game visually—the color palette is well chosen, and everything is easy to recognize and clearly readable. The game has a real retro charm, especially at the beginning with the short but fitting loop in the menu. The theme is perfectly met as well, with everything taking place in a single room. The theme of “intentional unemployment” should be taken with a bit of humor—though I think it can also unintentionally reinforce certain stereotypes.

The gameplay loop is simple but works well. I had some trouble with the controls at first, and I would have liked to be able to advance the dialogue with the mouse. In the game itself, however, everything worked perfectly fine. The controls feel smooth and responsive. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice at first that I had “defeated” a job; a short pause and maybe the option for upgrades would have been a great addition here.

Graphics:
As mentioned—the graphics are simple but I like them a lot! The color choices are excellent, and everything looks very clear and readable.

Music / Sound:
The music in the menu is well chosen; during the fight I could imagine a tension-building boss theme working great. The sound effects are also fitting and consistent.

Theme: Perfect!

Conclusion: A solid boss-fight game with coherent, charming graphics. Well done!
