I like it! Fun and small, which is what game jams games are all about!
For pixel art, I have a couple tips that really helped me out!
I notice that your art uses a lot of different colors. One of my favorite things about creating pixel art is its restrictions - early video games had access to very limited color palettes and had to make the most out of very few colors. But by using lots of different shades, you can really blur the lines between realistic and retro. Your artstyle is very cartoonish in design, but is shaded realistically in other ways. Your one-color flag for example, very much contrasts the realistic shading of the main character.
Color design is one of the toughest things to nail in pixel art - so I generally let other people figure that out! I highly recommend using palettes from lospec.com, it's an easy way to have color synergy without knowing what you're doing. Using a palette is a great way to have uniformity in your art.
You have some anti-aliasing on the borders of the tree sprite. This makes the trees look like they are blending together with the sky background. I generally prefer to use anti-aliasing in art that doesn't move much - like static portraits. (here's a guide to what I'm referencing: https://medium.com/pixel-grimoire/how-to-start-making-pixel-art-4-ff4bfcd2d085)
If you haven't already stumbled across this, let me hand you the bible of pixel art: this blog is created by the guy who did all the art for Celeste - this is the perfect reference for creating pixel art and animations! I swear by this website, it is my favorite bookmark.

thank you very much, I hope to get better at pixel art.
Game
Yes, I found my extremely tiny hat 🙂!
This was a fun little game to play! I liked the tiny resolution and the pixel art style did fit in nicely with that concept and was very consistent throughout the game.
The checkpoint system was very helpful. Died a few times but nice that you can try that part again quickly. The enemies were good, but some extra variation would have been nice of maybe an attack that you can upgrade to kill them more easy and faster.
Sound effects were good also. Some background ambiance music would be an extra touch for a possible future update.
Overall I had fun playing and wanted to find the hat...that is a good job 👍!
Devlog
Glad you were able to make a devlog too. Nice that it included some images. And to read how you came to the end game.

Nice pixel art game, liked the style and different enemies in the game. The checkpoint system was really good to have and the occasional reminder where to find the hat was great :D
Thank you, I often see games with a lot of space between checkpoints or not that much checkpoints at all, that annoys me so I always add pleny.
It's a cute game with nice art but that but I couldn't get passed that flower that was shooting too much
did you know you can destroy the bullets by hitting them?
I was not fast enough
really enjoyed playing your game. especially liked the pixel art.
Very nice, solid entry! The resolution constraints made it feel very unique and the pixel art is excellent. Job well done, I'd say!
Thank you very much, your game was great too.
I really liked the art. If you add music and a plot, you will get a full-fledged game, albeit a small one. Good luck!
I agree, but instead of starting at the beginning of the jam I have only started mid-way so I did not have enough time. Maybe I will add something like it in the future.
Impressive job, art and animation is very well done. Some assets felt out of place, and the game felt hard because you couldnt see ahead of you, but i think that was kinda the point.
Tons of potential though, curious to see what you make next :)
