Game Description
Mad Scientists mix Animal DNA to create monsters and pit them in battle.
How does your game tie into the theme?
By taking features of one animal, such as wings, or claws, and giving them to another animal, you are fundamentally changing that creature, it is becoming a new form.

Super fun! Your game gave me an "impossible creatures" vibe which I LOVED playing as a kid. Something about mixing and matching creatures to give them new abilities is just so fun. I ran into a bug where an enemy teleported into my guy and I just couldn't move anymore, though :-(.
Still a very cool and nicely executed game!
Nice one!! TRPG mechanics are always a challenge, huge kudos on packing in so many unique ways to customize your roster on top of the core gameplay! The sense of humor is great, too, the title and premise are more than enough to pull you in xD I did find myself occasionally second-guessing myself on how I was choosing to coalesce my army of critters—should I put all my eggs in one basket, or look for safety in numbers!? Either way, I really enjoyed it!!
Congrats on your first Wild Jam :D
A wild experience ahahah
Great story and take on the theme! :D We really enjoyed trying around the different combinations :) Well done!
This is a great concept, fusing is fun and then getting to play a turn-based game with the fusions rocks. I did run into a bit of a bug where an enemy seemingly teleported onto my man-faced horse and then even after space bar I couldn't play any more turns. But regardless, was very enjoyable experience
Glad you liked it :)
There's definitely a couple bugs still in game which I'm sorry you might of hit. Turns out it's a bigger task than i thought to make a decent AI and test and debug it in a few days XD Live and Learn
This is a bonkers take on the theme and I thought it was great! Splicing a human and a sword fish as well as other combinations definitely rewarded you with a delightful abomination.
Well done for getting a turn based combat game as well as all the attribute mixing done in this amount of time.
I was giggling at every stage of my testing when putting different heads and bodies together. Wish I had time to include all the animals that i had to cut from the list. You guys were also gonna get Chameleons, Flamingos, Cobras, Manta Rays, Scorpions, and so on.
Nice concept and I really enjoyed animal morphing! I've spent way too much time the to get the ultimate killing machine :D
Yet when I got to the battle and one-hit-kill the enemy - nothing happened. The enemy didn't disappear and kept playing and spawning enemies. Not sure what went wrong? Or is it intended? Or what did I do wrong? A bit confused.
But the lab is real fun, good job!
Glad you had fun morphing animals together, perhaps you have the making of a Mad Scientist too!
As for the second bit, that actually sounds like a bug to me, not one i encountered in my own testing, sorry you happened to hit that! Take solace in the fact that you clearly grew something so strong that the game itself didn't know how to handle it :P
Very cool! At some point, I had enough damage + movement to one shot the other scientist on my first action every time, but that power actually felt pretty good for a jam game :D A couple of control polishes like making it easy to cancel an attack or move would be nice, but the only thing I was really missing was some sort of end (or indication that I was moving towards an end).
I had tons of fun, and that's the most important thing :)
Thanks, I'm glad you had fun with it :D
As always with game jams, scope gets cut, and in the last day or so I was busy juggling bug fixes that I didn't have time for any conclusion. Heck I didn't even get to put in a game over screen XD
Awesome idea! I actually had similar idea like you, to make some game where you can change body parts and then either fight or do some platformer or something. Congrats on your first jam! :)
Thanks for the kind words! :)
The Mad Science vibe wasn't even my initial idea but i'm glad i thought about it over the first couple days and fleshed it out :)
Great concept! really enjoyed playing this once i figured out i had to select the creature to pass. Impressive amount of creatures to combine in such a short amount of time. Something that would have been really nice is having the dictionary of what traits mean available mid game not just at the start menu
Yeah in hindsight I totally think I had enough time to implement something like that, and wanted to do it but you know what it's like when it's coming down to the last few hours before the deadline XD
I like the concept of building your own creature and then testing it in battle, good job! :D Also, any head on the turtle body looks so funny hahaha
Thanks for playing :D
I wasn't gonna make the scientist an actual creature on the map at first, just like a dude that stood on the side and acted as like a base to spawn creatures from, so I'm pretty glad I changed my mind and just shoved him into the creature list too
Very cool seeing a turn based strategy game here! The creature mixing aspect was fun, I had a little too much fun juicing up my OSTRIMAN with 30 movement and a ton of damage/health. Great work!!!
Thanks for playing :D
I had a lot of fun coming up with how the different names would be combined. I originally planned to have 48 different creatures to work with, but with all game jams, scope had to be cut. Maybe in a future project you'll bee able to make a Rhimingo, a Crocogator, or a Gila Ostriman :P
I think the concept of building your own genetically engineered creatures and fighting them is a great concept! I hope you continue with it and keep adding features and polish. Nice Job, especially for your first GWJ submission!
Thanks for the praise! :D
I had quite a bit of fun with this, I hadn't made a turn based strategy before, so parts of the logic were a little daunting, especially trying to sort out the enemy AI (Which turned out to be both simpler and more complex than I thought XD). It has certainly put me in the mood for making another one, without the jam's constraints so I can take more time planning things out before diving in :)
I loved this, seeing the different monsters made and battling it out was a real treat! Gameplay-wise I felt that movement was so strong, I'm not really sure the traits had much of an impact, though maybe I just didn't get far enough. I really hope you go farther with this post jam, clearing out some bugs and improving the usability (ex being able to cancel out earlier, but you still had it at all so it's not critical). I really appreciated the space bar, but unfortunately it wasn't enough, when I took out a creature, its stats window remained which blocked another one of my character's action menu. I used space to advance but then on my turn I couldn't do anything. Again, not me complaining, just hoping you work on it some more!
Thanks for playing, I'm glad that you enjoyed it (even with the bugs!) :)
I also agree that movement was super strong, I actually took out the chance for enemy creatures to have improved movement since i found they could sometimes fly across the map and one-shot your team XD
There's so many little aspects of the game which i'm not happy how they ended up, just making it clunky or ugly overall that i'm really considering re-doing the project without jam limitations.
Has science gone too far?! I really enjoyed merging my animals, ended up creating some strange combinations. It's pretty amazing how many attributes/details you implemented in such a short time. The complexity was a little overwhelming, so I decided just to jump into the game and mess around. It was quite a bit of reading to get started, but I liked the game overall!
Thanks for the kind words :)
As the game kinda grew in size I really needed to actually implement a better interface in the combat round to describe things better but I was running short on time and had other bugs to fix, so the best I could do was just throw in a big written chunk to the main menu. Definitely not the best solution XD
