Great game and artstyle! Lightened my mood allright.

Developer

Glad it did!

Great dialogue system, nothing to click through. When you fall does the jump platform always catch you? I like that the jumping really requires you to mash a lot.

Developer

Thanks! It is some code that shows the text when you enter an Area2D. Yeah the jump platform is always there. Did not feel like dying was meaningful and this way you can progress even if you do not feel like mashing anymore. You do? I hoped it would make the real life efforts and in game efforts seem closer.

Submitted

Haha yeah I mean the mashing is kind of annoying, but in most games when you mash it feels like you're cheating the system or something, but here I like that it's actually built around it. You really have to mash hard to even get over the first obstacle. It's not the most fun mechanic, I just like how you actually force the player to mash hard!

Developer

yeah, actually after all that play testing my space bar started squeaking.

I feel like you did more with your minimalist bg than I did with my high-res sky. Neat game! I don't really like mashing buttons, but I didn't want to quit this one.

Developer

Well, I tried to make a scrolling background first, but I did not get it working so just made it static :).  I think the colors contribute to atmosphere a lot.  Glad you like it.

This game contains a lot of nice ideas, and the sincerity with which you explained the development of your game mechanics was very nice.
The adaptive music is really cool, even though I had to spend a few minutes to understend how to trigger it. Sometimes tracks are a little bit messy if they overlap, but I understand it was not a simple task to reach.
Particles effect are really cool, and both in HTML5 and Windows version didn't have any particular problem.
PS. I feel sorry for the background , but it is cool anyway! Must appreciate the attempt.

Developer(+1)

Yeah the overlap in fadeouts between the tracks is a little weird. But i triggers the longer you are in the air and resets on the ground.  That way tension meant to be build.  HTML works fine? thats good to know, thought it might not work. Hahaha well the bg does the job. MS Paint FTW.

guess i have to play the first part

Developer

Maybe then this game will not be on fire, if you succeed.

That was fun, nice effects and like the got-ya button. Also really liked the little mouseover texts. I think I might steal that for future jam entries; leaving little notes for other devs on how I did something. Sharing is caring after all.

Developer (1 edit)

Hehe you found it.  Please do "copy", it is interesting to learn how something was done and in game is a convenient way to do that.

Where did you discovered the got-ya button, if you don't mind me asking?

Submitted

The first time I discovered it was by being stubborn and continuing to go to the right :-D

Then it remained available through-out the game. Was it not supposed to?

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah it was supposed to. But you did not find anything to the right??

It must have lessened the tension though hahah.

After a few (five? six?) jumps I thought: ok, I will comply and go back to the left :)
