A bit weird but enjoyable, however it feels as if it ends far too early

Nice game! Cool combat idea, although I found the ui was scaled a bit weird
Congrats on your first Game Jam submission. I hope it was as rewarding for you as my first time was for me.
Let me say, good job for a first Jam. You implemented a simple turn based combat system and stat system (which can be quite complex under the hood), animations, UI popups, upgrades, and art. For me, it was bug-free! Shiny mode was also a fun addition as a trade-off for more power <3
Now my 2cents of constructive critique. I will echo what others have said - try to focus a bit more on the Theme and Player experience.
1. Theme: The dice rolls could have been replaced with a simple attack animation without really changing the game experience. This is a sign that the Theme is not being utilised to its potential.
2. Player Experience: I love traditional turn based battle systems so I am probably from this games key audience. I find the fun of these systems is in player strategic options. Apart from picking upgrades, I had no agency to influence the battle. I still played through to the end, but this was a let down for me. Even a simple Scissors-Paper-Rock (e.g. Physical > Magic > Counter> Physical) could have improved the experience substantially.
Good luck with your next Jam.
Thank you so much for your constructive criticism! I will make note of these things to improve in the future :D
It was a very rewarding experience, a learned so much and had to make tough decisions on the scope of the game to finish in the time limit! I think the battle system needs a lot of work, its not even close to what I was picturing. I ended up choosing to add a small shop mechanic on day 2 instead of finishing the battle system. I knew that I could improve the code for battles, but I wanted to challenge myself to work on a mechanic that I wasn't as comfortable with and ended up with a lack luster player experience. But hey, at least it's shiny right XD
I will go check out your submission and leave you a review, thanks for taking the time to let me know where I can improve
Simple dice rolling game. Would love to see more detailed graphics. But great job, it's not a lot of time to make a game from scratch
Cool game! Pretty simple concept, but I think with better presentation and art, it could actually be developed into a full game!
The game was fun, just felt kinda slow for me personally. I also was able to just, spend all of my money on damage and never lost! -Kaylee
The music was pretty good, although the art is pretty rough. My main feedback is that the player doesn't have much of a choice in combat, which makes it very dull. It's basically impossible to lose the game, and winning the game is as simple as pressing a button without any thought.
Really artwork and congrats on completing your first game for a game jam! Some feedback from me would be the player has no real impact on the game, it is too randomised. An autoclicker could replace the player in this instance, having more of an interactive gameplay loop would be where I would focus on. Good job!
Thanks for asking! My son made this one :-) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-jam-2022/rate/1619123
