This is a really neat concept! I did find it a little confusing to tell objects apart sometimes - after a while I couldn't tell the different parts of my ship apart anymore - so I agree that adding some different colors would hugely aid readability (the simple geometric style by itself is fine, though, and can look quite nice!).  Sound effects would also make the gameplay a lot more satisfying, even without adding anything else. In general, pushing the juice on this would add a lot; this is already a strong base for a game, and it would help take it to the next level. A score counter would also be nice, to add a sense of progression. Good work on this overall!

Love the idea of a bullet heaven where you build your spaceship on the fly!

Some improvements could have been:

  • A slightly less dizzying camera set up (Maybe dont make the rotation follow the ship when spinning so fast, but i'm not exactly sure what the best answer to this is)
  • A background. Really any kind of patterned background (maybe stars for example) would have really helped with a sense of speed+rotation.
  • As someone else said, I think the really simple art approach is a non-issue, but it would have been nice if the pieces were maybe color coded (one color for engines, one for guns etc..) just to help understand what's happening a bit more.

I believe the core gameplay loop could actually be something really special for this.

Great work and well done!

I actually really enjoyed this game, the concept is extremely fun and chaotic, I love it! I really think it whould be made into a full game

Fun little take on the theme, and I love this spaceship building type game that came up in the jam! Here are a few points that could help the game a bit in the future!

  • The camera is pretty dizzying, and the fact that the entire world is constantly moving around makes it impossible to really tell where I'm going, I think this is a game that would need one of those zoomed out static cameras.
  • The simplistic art is totally a valid approach, but at one point I can't really differentiate what is what. Maybe adding some color sprites or something to make it more obvious?

All in all, very fun game that has a lot of room for expansion! Great job!

Thank you! I am planning some changes to fix the issues presented, appreciate your feedback!

What I liked

The game respected the theme quite well, and I found the general idea of slowly snow balling out of control to be relatively funny; I now get the thumb nail. I also thought the weapon variety and ship variety you come across to be quite good.

What I didn't like and how to address them.

There are a few accessibility issues with the game. The actual movement got quite dizzying when doing hard turns for example. I would recommend playing around and learning how to use something like CineMachine as it helps out quite a lot for short time scale projects. For future jams I would highly recommend working on getting the game exported to WebGL, that way you worry a lot less about people being unable to play your game due to OS, and you don't get caught up in virus paranoia. I wasn't sure where my core was, so whilst I understood that missiles could hit me, I didn't understand what did and did not take damage when I was being shot at.

Potential Improvements

Whilst you had music and pretty good music that looped seamlessly without getting too repetitive; the sound effects were somewhat lacking.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this was quite a nice little game with a very good idea at its core. Great job!

No way you have the stars both on discord AND here??? BIG thanks for your feedback! New camera system is planed and many more features too! Appreciate ya!

i think this could be a very cool multiplayer game. The fact that i can shoot at enemies and break their ship and collect the junk and build and upgrade my ship. You will need to design lots of different ships and different upgrades but you make it into a polished and full game, this can be something very popular and fun to play with friends or random people online.  Maybe 3d would be better, but you are the dev, and i am sure you will figure it out. Lemme know when you do it. Would love to play it.

Oof, multiplayer. It's a nice thought, but Imagine some dude with 30 missile launchers...

Those things are actually homing, and never dispawn until they hit something...

I'll give it some thought, thanks!

The game could use colors to distinguish threats from opportunities. Other than that, the concept is fun! There are crazy things going on with building your ship, and I like how it turns into a ridiculous machina of destruction.

Developer

Thank you! Very true, I definitely should have a way of differentiating enemy ships from pickable parts. Thanks for your feedback!

Wow, this is definitely a fun chaotic arcade-style shooter! It did make me a little dizzy to spin around in the void but otherwise it was fun to watch my spacecraft(p) get bigger and bigger! Feel like the music was fun and chaotic to fit the vibe too.

Developer

Thanks! I will definitely change how the camera works in the future. And the spin too. Appreciate the feedback!

Really cool idea!

Let down by some bugs, which you know about. My ship seems to just be shooting all the time, and space bar does nothing.

I don't know if the thrusters actually affect my ship, would like something in the background, like some stars, so I know which direction I'm moving in. Some sound effects (even just 'pew pew pew' would also be good. And some art, even really basic textures or color changes so the pieces of the ship look different.

I would play an expanded and improved version of this, with proper art and different ship components like shields, thicker hull, lasers, tractor beams, etc. to pick up that you have to strategize about.

Overall, I think this is an excellent idea. 5 stars for creativity.

Developer

Thanks! I think you're absolutely right, I should of have gotten some sound effects of the game, and a nice background, and man I should of had given the missile launcher more feedback, because that's what shoots when you press space (as long as you do have a missile launcher, of course). Those features you mentioned were planed, but then time happened and we couldn't implement it on time. Will do in a future update, though.

Absolutely understand. I feel the same; so many features I would've added to my game, and bugs I would've fixed, but the passage of time happened. 😅 I had a look at your game from last year's jam, it look slik eyou've come a long way!

This was pretty fun! The idea is unique, though the execution is a bit buggy, The game did not reset after death and at some point enemies stopped spawning, it could use some more work but it is really fun watching your spacreapt become an abomination! The art is also clean, may not be that complex but it looks great!

Really fun game, good job!

Developer

Thanks! I'm aware of mentioned bugs, and they will be fixed, appreciate the feedback!

a fun take on the jam theme! taking down other ships to salvage their parts is a nice choice and it could easily be expanded into a bigger game. the camera controls are unfortunately a little bit nauseating, but overall the aesthetics make a nice clean look out of simple shapes. nice QoL with the keybind menu as well!

Developer

Yeah that was definitely on me, I will change the way cameras work in the future!

very chaotic fun! i'd be interested to see how this would play without the rotating camera

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I too think that the rotation is a bit messy and confusing. I'll change it in a future update
