Quite a fun (but tricky) little game. I can see the idea is to "build" to "scale" over obstacles, although I do wonder if there's a creative way to play with the concepts of large and small within this game as well.
My main suggestion would be to add different types of difficulty to the game and reduce the parts of the difficulty that can feel artificial. For instance, if the blocks you placed were made larger, the timing window to jump on them wouldn't be as tight, and a single block would be able to turn a jump from being impossible to being easy (instead of being barely possible). This would leave room for more of the other types of difficulty, such as puzzling out how to beat a level or having to multitask to deal with multiple threats at the same time.
Nice retro style art direction, reminded me of older space style games. The scaling theme with the box mechanic is not really apparent but I get the feeling of scaling the platformer. Several parts feel hard to traverse but it's still an enjoyable game to play. :)
very difficult game, but it was a lot of fun. nice work
Fantastic artstyle and very interesting gameplay. Great job
Not a lot of climbing, but nice job nonetheless! Too sad we didn't see the third (gravitational?) block, seems quite interesting.
Thanks for trying it out!
Agree, climbing is somewhat superficial, but that's was our theme implementation.
Due to a bug, levels including 3-rd block did not upload into submission and we caught that a lil too late.
So nice and polished game, very nice mechanics! Can get hard in some places.
Thanks for playing!
We didn't have a chance to give it many people to playtest before submission this why in some places it's harder then it probably should be.
Super polished game. Had a lot of fun playing! Wish there were more levels though. There was one type of box that I didn't get to use (the third box) even though I got to the credits. The art and music fit perfectly with the game.
Thanks for playing!
3rd box is introduced in levels that did not upload due to an error.
Oh man this game was unforgiving.
Creativity:
Picking up boxes with your gun was an interesting concept. But i don't really see it fitting with the theme well, unless just scaling as in platforming? The game was quite difficult and very precise and secretive, could use more levels.
Art:
Some of the games sprites were really great, but the game felt, empty? i feel like the scale of the game is too small. The UI is basic and default i assume, which is understandable in this amount of time. But the existance of options is a big ++
Sound Design:
The music was fitting, and i'm glad the game isn't quiet, i like the sound effects they fit the game well and work right.
Overall an interesting and decently executed game. Good Job! :)
On topic of a theme - we've tried to run with "scale" in meaning of "climb" and there was supposed to be a lore dump like " you crash on an unknown planet, climb you way on top of a mountain to setup a rescue beacon"... but it got lost, among other things.
Same with levels - 3 of them somehow did not upload. They also introduce 3rd cube. It's been fixed in a post jam version.
Thanks for playing!
Art and style is good, cool mechanics. Stacking boxes is not that fun.
