I feel completely inept to judge the mechanics, so I'll leave that to someone who actually has rhythm. :D

This is an extremely high-polished game, down to the little details. It's very punishing, but maybe that was the vibe you were going for. For someone who hasn't played Crypt of the Necrodancer or any similar games, it was a bit overwhelming at first. The only thing I could suggest is a more forgiving difficulty curve. You already got the presentation covered. :)

This game's spritework is very nice, and the different music indicating my current enemy type is an inspired choice, I don't think I've played another game this jam that's done too many interesting things with the soundtrack so far, I love it!

I don't have too much to critique, but I think the controls of the characters feel a little bit sluggish. I found myself mashing keys to try and move my army around, rather than feeling like I was actually controlling them. The monsters attacking on a consistent rhythm also took a little while for me to figure out, as there's a lot of different mechanics to this game with plenty of moving parts, and it felt pretty overwhelming to try to learn everything all at once. My personal backseat design suggestion would be to maybe make the tutorial its own level, with just one enemy type? The ramp up from level 1 to 2 was also a huge spike in complexity that took a while for my brain to process all at once.

That all said, I think the core concept of the game is super inventive! The strategy of positioning all my units at once forced me to get really creative with my army's positioning, and you could definitely take advantage of this with even stricter level design. With a few more levels, alongside some tweaks to the level balance and overall feel, this could be fleshed out into a full title.

Thanks for the tips Barney! We tested a little too late our game and that made it so much harder to balance before the deadline, as most of the problems you pointed out we noticed, but couldn't do anything about it in a short amount of time, but thanks for the ideas for the fixes, the tutorial being one monster only is a great way to introduce our players to the gameplay and then make a slow increase in dificulty by adding monsters. We could surely make use of those fixes when the evaluation period ends! Thank you again for playing the game and for giving us tips!

Cool game! I like the 'Crypt of the Necrodancer' kinda movement, and I like the concept! A bigger map with more enemies would be cooler to see as well!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! I am glad you liked it :D

And yes we may add some more levels and enemies sometime after the rating period :)

Neat game!
Mine went along a similar story concept but yours is a lot more developed.
Really liked the rhythm game aspect of it.  Music, visuals and game-play all knitted together.

Couldn't beat level 2 though.  Not sure if those fly enemies going bonkers was a mechanic or a bug, but either way, I couldn't figure out how to work them.

Thank you so much, I am glad you liked our game!

And yes sadly that is one of the bugs we just couldn't fix in time :/

but will definitely check out your game soon :)

Very clever little game! Once I figured the attacks out I had a lot of fun. I could tell there was inspiration from Crypt of the Necrodancer, which is really cool! The art style was also quite chibi and cute. Oh, and excellent job on the music! My only problem with the game was that I couldn't figure out how to move onto level 2 after beating all the heroes in the first level.

Thank you so much for your review and I am glad you liked the game!

And yes sadly that was one of our bugs that we couldn't fix in time but will absolutely fix after the rating period! :D

I love the idea! it reverses the role of hero and monsters, but also switches roles by time! clever
I enjoyed it! well done :)

This is so cool for a game jam! I can't believe the sprites have idle animations, the visual appeal is so charming. I like that you squeezed three levels in there (tutorial included), and how the last one is hard enough to keep you going at it for a while. Sometimes I ran into unkillable enemies, but the music was charming and I like this concept a lot! Maybe if there was an option to toggle "difficulty" where Heroes were turn-based or move at their own pace, so it shifts the game into calmer strategy vs. faster paced strategy. I like the pressure though, this is a lot of work done! It took a bit to understand what exactly I was controlling and when, but I figured it out.

Thank you for the feedback, sounds like good tips we might implement after the rating phase :D

And I am very glad you liked the game and the visuals, thanks!

quite cool concept, love the art and music

the controls were a bit confusing, is it tempo based?

body blocking works a bit odd, especially when you stack monsters in a line.

also the Heroes might stop and attack monsters if under attack?

I hope you keep working on this project, it feels fun!

Thank you for the feedback. You have to listen to the beat, there are two UI element´s that indicate which monster group u are moving and the other one shows when they attack. Our team tried to simplify the UI but there wasn´t any time left. Best regards wolf
