How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
The game relies on multiple mechanics based on chances.
First the slot machine which will distribute randomly to the players a hand of tiles to play and then the success rate of the tiles when placing them. A failure resulting in the destruction of the tile and the one below.
The tiles placement can be manipulated by the players through synergies of tiles.
The whole idea is also to be able depending on the context to use bad luck as a tool or something positive. So a failure to place a tile could clear the board and trigger some useful effects !

I really like the idea here. My only issue was that I couldn't really grasp what the connection was between the block types, and their potential success, or destruction. I didn't find the descriptions of the block powers particularly helpful either in that regard - other than to realise there was a % chance involved in successful placement (which in fairness is appropriate for the jam theme).
I'd love to play a version of this where the only randomness is in the initial block roulette, leaving room for more strategy in the placement side of the game - I think that could be super addictive, and with a bunch of powerups and additional block types, you've got yourself a hit.
nice work!
Interesting concept. I played until level 6, where I had 25 coins. It seemed like there was no difficulty increase or any kind of progression, so I think I could have just kept going forever. To keep me entertained, some kind of progression would have been nice - upgrades, new block types, increasing difficulty, etc.
I had the same bug as Clark Padmore, but kept playing, and it disappeared the next time I got 3 identical tiles. My suspicion is the bug is related to placing the tiles really quickly when you get the "congratulation" popup.
Visuals and sfx were both very nice, and all in all I enjoyed my time with the game.
The gameplay loop is addictive and satisfying. It does get a little repetitive after a while, but for something to pick up and play for a few minutes on a bus ride or something it's great. I thought the use of chance/luck was a good interpretation of the theme too.
I liked the color palette chosen a lot. The graphics were also solid. Small gripe, but the inconsistent pixel sizing irked me.
My favorite part was the sound design. I was really vibing with the music in particular. Really groovy and cozy - perfect for a puzzle game.
Nice job!
Hey thanks for your comment ! Indeed it does get repetitive a bit, we're thinking about adressing it in post jam version :)
Sorry about the pixel sizes yeah, we messed up some imports in Unity I believe.
And it is the sound guy writting, an extra thank you for the heartwarming comment on the sound and music !
The game idea is really very good. A great game.
Thank you so much !
Interesting demo! I had to stop after the HUD started drifting all the way in front of where I'm placing things, but the concept is fun. It has a lot of strategy to it!
The jackpot sound that plays when the three tiles match is quite loud.
Most objects aren't aligned with the pixel grid, and several objects are rendered beyond the 160 x 144 resolution, especially the blocks inside of the slots.
All-in-all, good work! Congratulations on the submission!
Oh no ! First time seeing that bug, and here we were thinking that we're almost bug free dang it :D
We'll look into it, thanks for reporting :) We also may have messed up on the asset import hehe.
Thanks for playing and for your comment !
Very cool idea! I struggled a bit with getting too high up but I had a very chill and relaxing time playing :)
Thank you very much ! Glad you had a good time with the game :)
Cool concept and gameplay! and the visuals are clean. The music feels relaxing and fitting for a puzzle game. If you touch the project later on, you could make new blocks appearing at each level, to make the gameplay loop more fresh and a motivation for the player to reach new levels, as it can drag a bit after some time (I reached level 5)
Had lot of fun with it!
Glad you enjoyed it !
There are indeed talks about continuing some work on it as we also agree the loop is missing something to keep the loop interesting annd fresh. We're curious about solving that problem and see what comes up :)
Thanks for playing and leaving a comment !
Very clean implementation, visuals, and audio. It also uses the theme well and stands out from other games mechanically.
If I had to critique anything, I'd say that the pace of the game can drag a bit when you get a lot of failure blocks in a row or a bunch of TNT basically stopping your progress. You get enough money to keep going most of the time so the balance of the game seems good, but the novelty of the slot machine roll wears off and it feels more like a chore over time having to wait for the slots to finish. If I could just speed up the slot roll animation that would give me an option to avoid that feeling once I'm already into the game.
Hey thanks a lot for your comment !
Yeah we do agree on the game dragging, we are missing something in that implementation to keep the loop fresh.
Also a nice idea on the slot roll that eluded us.
Thanks again !
awesome music and use of the theme. while it did feel a bit difficult at times (especially with how often you get tnt) I felt like I got a good gist of what you were going for.
Hey thanks a lot !
Yeah balancing got a bit out of hand during the last moments sorry about that, cool to see that what we went for transpired in the game !
awesome soundtrack, and sound in general! I like the palette you chose a lot as well. I wish TNT blocks were rarer, or you could cancel them, as I found it kind of tricky to get a good tower going with all the dynamite coming my way. otherwise, I enjoyed the variety of tiles and the presentation quite a bit
Glad to hear you enjoyed all that :)
We had a version where it felt too easy just before the last push and we may have gotten a bit heavy ended on the TNT during the last rush hehe, sorry about that one !
I really liked this interpretation of the theme! And I really enjoyed the soundtrack too :)
Hey ! Thanks a lot for the comment, we're glad you enjoyed it !
