Can I draw the A/B/Dpad/select/start outside the 160x144?

Don't see it mentioned in the FAQ but I was thinking of drawing the controls in an area outside the 160x144 to allow for mobile devices to play my game.  Is this allowed?  It'd only be the Game Boy controls, would be useable with touch and act as if it was Gameboy controls.

The closest I could find is this, but it's not exactly what I was thinking.  "Black bars or 'super gameboy' frames around the outside of the gameplay area are fine."

I might be able to detect if I'm on a mobile device and only show it there if this is an issue.

Thank you.

For now I'll assume this is a no, though I'll likely try to create another version that allows for this as I'd like to support mobile if I have time to do so.  I have A LOT of learning to do as I chose Godot and I know very little about it so I might be biting off more than I can chew as I haven't even decided my game yet.  LOL  I have ideas but none are having me super excited about it, mainly excited about learning Godot.

The way I'd look at it is, it's just a visual indicator for mobile input and not part of the actual game itself, so it would be acceptable. Buttons on the gameboy are located outside of the game screen, so why can't this be too?

That was my thinking as well.  I think I'll save it for later as it shouldn't be to hard to add if I can even get the game going.  LOL

cool idea! yeah, seems fine to me if you want to put in that extra work. i don’t see a problem with it, as it seems to fit within the rules. Polyducks will have the final say, but i’m going to guess he’d be fine with it also.

Confirmed this is fine. It's part of the default output for GBStudio. The game output area is the only part that needs to be 160x144.
