2. observed: noticeable background music

3. verified: GAMEPLAY to be of shooting enemy objects; observed: self to be surprised that SHOOT COMMAND does NOT execute; learns: shall NEED to first buy item parts and then set in CARD SLOT to execute select COMMANDS, and receive additional assistance, e.g. “Time Heals All Wounds (auto-repair health)”, “A Taste of Your Own Medicine (enemy receive damage when PLAYER is hit)”;

4. remembers: from CARD SLOT, Magic the Gathering Trading Card Game; adds: Metal Slug Advance (GameBoyAdvance), where: self read items added in CARDS LIST; objective: VALUE of items, e.g. banana, canned food, in such setting;

5. observed: select items set in CARD SLOT cause noticeable CHANGE in OUTPUT; example: SHOOTING ACTION causes ship to move backward; remembers: another GAME 2022 ENTRY, “Fair Squares”; notes: VALUE of items also noticeable when enemies are quickly destroyed after upgrade as with Borderlands 2 (PS3); adds: however, MONEY and TIME (based on experience points) shall appear to be the factors to WIN; remembers: ROCKMAN 2 (SegaGenesisMini), where: technique via combination of EVASIVE MOVEMENT and ATTACK ACTION shall need to be maintained to DEFEAT BUBBLE MAN; adds: weapon classified to be BUBBLE MAN’s weakness has no more remaining AMMO due to created world

Fun game, really nice visuals, loved the music and the sync with the grid's pulse in the menu, very professional. Congratz!

This game is quite enjoyable. I like the aesthetics.

I recorded myself playing the game: https://youtu.be/JJN2o28Gar0

Some random thoughts:

  • The music and graphics look synchronized. Some sounds effects like a grenade launch are also quite good. I was tempted to fire them to the beat.

  • The menu is so stylish. :D Well, the entire game art style is good. It’s simple, but not primitive.

  • The gameplay is good and smooth, but then it becomes more grindy without additional threats (read the next point).

  • I think the game lacks the difficulty progression. It’s harder in the beginning than after you get a couple of upgrades. I’m not sure there is any enemy progression at all. Bosses would be nice too.

  • Some upgrades are described in a peculiar way so it’s hard to understand what they’re supposed to do. :D

  • The enemies can go through the walls. Since the player can’t, it feels a little bit unfair.

  • It would be convenient to fire by a pressed down button; this would require a weapon to have some reload time though. Pressing the mouse key for every shot is quite exhausting.

  • Starting without a weapon feels weird. Is there a reason not to buy a starting weapon from the get go?

Hello!! Thank you for this review!

  • Thank you!  music is a huge part of my life so I try incorporating it everywhere :P
  • I really care about the aesthetics and overall experience, so I'm really glad you like it!
  • Yeah (read the next point).
  • Enemies do spawn faster/more frequently as time progresses but it take a LOT of time, something I am willing to change later (perhaps rewrite the entire enemy spawner code), I will also implement bosses and extra hard enemies to make things more interesting and less repetitive.
  • Sorry 'bout that ahaha, I tried my best to make the upgrades clear, it was a bit tricky as I had to use the "Cli-ché" terms in order to fit for the game jam.
  • Yes that was intentional, there are more walls on the harder difficulties than the easy ones to add more to the challenging aspect of the game. But hey, at least enemy bullets can't go through walls :D
  • I will also implement an auto-shoot upgrade card to fix this issue.
  • The reason you don't start with a weapon is to get the player a bit familiar with the upgrades menu and how to use it, as I noticed in your video, you didn't realize at first how to use the (left side) upgrades and that you should also drag and drop the cards into the card slots above them.

Again thank you for this review, cheers!

I wanted to play it, but the browser version wouldn't work after pressing start, and downloading the windows version gave me a .rar file, which I couldn't figure out how to open.

Developer

Hello, to play the game you simply have to unzip the .rar file using any program that offers this functionality, mainly WinRAR or 7Zip!

The style is very beautiful, the music is mesmerizing. I didn't quite understand how to shoot. The game does not respond to mouse buttons. I will be glad if you help me)

Developer

Helloo, in order to shoot, you need to purchase a weapon from the middle section of the upgrades menu (Toggle using "E") and drag and drop it into the corresponding card slot, and after you exit the upgrades menu, the weapon will be automatically equipped (visually indicated) and you can simply use the left click button of your mouse to shoot!

You can check the tutorial if it's still confusing. Cheers!

Loved the silky smooth movement and the appearance of the player's ship.

I felt it was a tiny bit unfair that the enemies could shoot at me from offscreen.

Great attention to game-feel! Nice work!

Thank you soo much!!

Nice visual style and a vaariability of different weapons and perks but I suppose music isn't appropriate for gameplay speed.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I'll consider changing the music later to actually fit the vibe of the game. Cheers!

Cute graphics and sounds, the game is fun and engaging but a little slow.

Developer (1 edit)

I am considering adding more features to the gameplay to keep things interesting, so hopefully this should fix it. But for now I won't change anything until the game jam ends. Thank you soo much for your feedback!
