Oh man this is great! it evokes such a classic, nostalgic feel. I like how the characters each had different narration as you clear the rooms

Thank you! Glad you liked it!!

The retro art style with the lighting looks really good and an interesting concept.

This was simple, but interesting to play. there's just something about gameboy style that is even creepy in a way, and your game really captures it, even with stuff like field of view, not knowing what's around the corner. Really nice game, feels polished, well done. I would maybe work on the sounds, add some kind of ambient sound that would fit the theme - like I wouldn't even add music, I think it would ruin the atmosphere and make into a nostalgic-gameboy kinda thing, just like some subtle sounds to immerse a player more

Developer

Hey! Thank you very much for the kind words and the insightful comment!

I totally agree with the sounds being rather weak. I tried to be coherent to the GameBoy restrictions by adding the 8-bit-sounds, but maybe something more realistic would be better to enhance the immersion! I will definitely think about it!

Thanks again!

I really like the art style of the game. I could see this game being on a game boy or something like that, some kind of old school handheld. I know the point is that it’s lacking the typical features that a roguelike would have, and that it’s supposed to be simple. But as an HTML game / desktop game, I think it ends up feeling like it’s lacking depth. It looks like it would be perfect for the Playdate.

My overall point is that if you’re trying to limit features, and you want to take the game further, perhaps a look at hardware that intentionally limits features (or is just old hardware) would be interesting to you.

Developer

You are definitely right... it totally lacks depth!

I tried to restrict myself to the limitations of the original Gameboy. Still haven't used one of the buttons though, so maybe I will add items to give the gameplay some variety and players some loot to look for.

Thanks for playing and the valuable input!
