Let people know how long this project has been going, or share a bit of its history.
Originally conceived around 2012, the first iteration of this project was written as a hacky c++ SDL experiment. It then laid dormant for years. We revamped the idea and started from scratch for GM48 #37 earlier in January 2021, and realized that we wanted to devote more than just a weekend to the project. This is our followup to that jam after making a ton of tweaks and adding a lot of features we didn't have time to get to in a single weekend.

Game was very fun to play. Visuals and audio design were very well incorporated into the game. Mechanics and controls were smooth. There are great details, which I love because small details go a long way. The story is clear which shows good execution and planning. Well done on this game!

FIVE STARS FOR FUN! This game was awesome ! I loved this roguelike like Binding of Isaac but you get a super cool monkeysuit to kill people! I also liked how as you get hurt, you become weaker by losing machine parts that you have to exit the suit to get back. Awesome pixel art, awesome mechanics, nice job !

This is a great game, and might be my favorite I've played from this jam! It's a really cool take on twin stick shooter with the "health" being tied directly to the suit's parts, and your capabilities being reduced from taking damage.  The quirky style works really well, I especially like the forward facing animation for Capuchin hopping around inside the suit, and the sound effects are really fitting, theres a good distinction of ambient vs gameplay sounds too.  The variety of weapons, upgrades, and enemies made each room feel like a fresh challenge.  The enemy patterns really stood out, and the obstacles around each room gave the perfect cover to avoid danger while learning how to tackle them, without completely trivializing it cause they'd eventually find their way too you (or you'd have to go to them).

One thing I was unsure of was if upgrades are lost when switching to a new piece of gear, I was a little more reluctant to try new weapons in my second run because I was worried about making myself weaker and you arent able to switch back.  Also one time when fighting the boss, I lost all my parts and he kinda just hung around the suit preventing me ever really repairing fully without losing more parts as soon as I tried to get it outta there.  My next attempt went way better tho, had 2 of the 3-shot burst arms, with tons of fire rate boosts.    They did make the screenshake overwhelming though lol, but they destroyed the boss!  Anyways this is a really impressive and fun game, especially for the time frame too, really well done.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the game.

To answer the question about the upgrades: they do persist between pickups so you should feel free to swap as you wish. I don’t think we conveyed this clearly (we added very subtle 1pixel different colored upgrade indicator sprites that stack above each shoulder to display current upgrade level) it’s definitely something we need to rethink if we ever decide to keep iterating on the idea.

Boss AI should probably be tweaked to prevent the scenario you describe, but it should be possible to lead him away during a certain phase? Maybe not though.

thanks again for this awesome feedback! We loved runelite, just so you know!

Gotcha, that's good to know!  Im not positive on the boss but the room seemed smaller than the time I beat him, that coulda just been me panicking though lol.  I'm glad to hear you liked mine too!

thanks for playing! This was fun to watch!

I am wondering was the browser zoomed in more than 100%?

Zooming out with ctrl (-) might have made it fit on the page better?

Yes that actually works, just tested it lol... Didnt think of that yesterday!

Really awesome game. I love the repairing the suit mechanic and all of the small details are great. The music is good and nice sound effects (although a little bit loud).

The concept and execution here are really tight! Game feel super juicy, although a couple of the screen shake effects at the very beginning could be toned down a bit (just my personal preference). The flow of fighting with the suit and repairing with the monkey comes pretty naturally and is quite satisfying, with a decent difficulty curve once you start running into different types of enemies. I have yet to play through the whole thing but will definitely be coming back!
