This is so cool! Love the clean style and the mechanics are really fun. My only issue is that it took me a few rounds to realize why each round was ending (I didn't see the goal score at the top, I was too focused on making lines!)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! That makes sense, there’s not much of an “onboarding”, and I planned to add a flashing score after losing to help with that, but ran out of time

This game rules! It really just kept growing on me the more and more I played it. The deck-builder conceit of only having a defined number of blocks to use per round really encourages more aggressive and messy play, whereas in traditional Tetris you have the time and space to play more patiently since you only have to worry about the eventual "overflow" at the top. Then the whole thing is spiced with that layer of gradual discovery and figuring out what each block does and what a "delete" even is! The cascading scoring effect is also really pleasing in a brain buzzy way. Super classy, super classic.

One thing I was surprised by is that when I first started playing and was learning to grasp the rogue-ish / run-based elements is that the concept of Tetris with non-traditional, non-tetromino pieces thrown in is actually pretty compelling all by itself.

Thanks for the nice comment!!! I’m very glad you enjoyed a bunch of what I felt was enjoyable while developing the game :)

This is really interesting!  Normally roguelikes aren't my style, but I guess my love for tetris overpowers it, because I found this really enjoyable and interesting.  great job!

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try Walaber!

Good good game idea. Visually simple but really effective. Game play was really fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

It's a block builder, not a roguelike deck builder? That was an interesting idea!

Developer

That’s a funny way to describe it! I might change the description…

This is really cool! I like the combined mino shape + item effect deckbuilding approach,  and it's satisfying to watch the "score meltdown" when a plan comes together. :)

EDIT: Removed a "bug" report that was just me forgetting what an effect did, plus maybe getting confused by how it looked when combined with another effect that procced at the same time. :p

Developer

Thanks for playing!

To be fair, visually showing what is happening, what is triggering what, is definitely one of the most important aspects of these type of games, and I’m not really satisfied with the way I did it. So you thinking it’s a bug is useful, and makes sense!

I need to give this one a bit more time I think, I’m still not entirely sure what impact the different block types are having, but I’m keen to find out. Either way it’s a clean little game, fun to play, and the subtle sounds are really nice.

Thanks for playing!!

As a general rule of thumb, as you might’ve noticed, blue clears, yellow scores. Then, position and shape inside each blocks hints at what relative area will be affected :)

For one or two blocks in particular I didn’t quite manage to fully convey what it does like this… but I hope it’s pretty clear what it does after you see it doing its thing

this was pretty cool! i enjoyed this sort of quasi deck-buildery take on puzzle games! i got reasonably far but i honestly was not able to figure out how to get the deletes to work

Developer

Thanks for playing!! While playing, if you have a delete you should be able to press and hold the buttons for rotating the piece for a while, and releasing them consumes a deletes and permanently deletes the piece you’re holding

Submitted

oh, when i held the buttons it just froze on a round grey blob until the piece fell and locked. i dunno if it's relevant, but: i'm on windows 10 on firefox, playing with an 8bitdo controller. maybe i'll give it a spin on a different machine and see if the issue resolves itself

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hmmm, if it stays on the grey blob in theory it’s because you don’t have a delete available, so it defaults to holding the piece. At least that’s what should happen

Interesting idea, fun to replay. The style is super neat. If this is done in three days, that is just wow! :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed the style, it’s definitely not my forte

Unfortunately I’m not good enough to make this in 3 days haha. At first I thought I would try doing something in 3 days, but I ended up taking the whole jam period just to get this out -.-
