this is really cool, a great start indeed; reminds me of the old RTS days. Controls/ explanation of controls could definitely be more intuitive but this concept is exciting.

Developer

Cool, thank you! I'm definitely going to add a "controls" explanation in the next build cause I've seen multiple people get stuck there. And now that I have more time I'm going to reboot up some of the city builders I really like and see how their controls work too, try to use the best I can find.

A good start. Way to go on your first released project!

Short but full of fun potential. I like the RTS style gameplay, I could see you going really far if you decided to continuing to invest in it. In my experience, games like this truly thrive on the amount of creativity you give the player, the feeling of building a society and expanding your units makes for some great gameplay.

If you continue to work on this after the jam (as it looks like you will from the ending message), please let me know, I'd love to play a full build of it!

Developer

Thanks for playing, your feedback's encouraging! And sure thing, I'm already working on cleaning up the bugs in this version and the next set of features. I'm pretty excited to upload a new build after voting ends.

I was just getting into it. Would definitely lose too many hours playing this game when it is fleshed out. Great work.

Developer

Thanks, that's awesome! Yeah, I wish this version had had a bit more content, but I guess that's how gamejams go. I'm still working on it though, there are a few more features I want to add before I consider it "ready".

This is a really cool game concept. It looks and sounds great, would definitely play the full game!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! I still have a couple of big features I want to add before I feel like it's "done", so expect an update once the jam evaluation period is over.

Pretty cool proof of concept! I found it enjoyable. The small, hex-based playing field kinda asks for some buff/debuff combinations between built structures. Maybe an idea for further development?

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Two ideas I didn't get to implement due to the time limit were stackable buildings when placed next to cavern walls (so that it actually feels more like a vertical dwarven city) and upgrading the farm to use adjacent hex tiles by emitting gross fungal spores.

This Game was really fun, I wish it was longer, Also for some resson i couldnt place more than one building at a time, and in the end it just got stuck, But with some fixes this game could be a super cool resource managment game :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I didn't catch that stuck building bug until the last hour or two of the jam and it just escaped my ability to fix in time. =/ I spent most of my time throughout the project getting the AI to work which was cool because the AI project behavior is more complex than anything I've ever worked on, but like you said it took away from things like a longer game or more things to do. I'm actually excited to continue the project though, there are 3-4 other major features I want to get into it before I consider it "done".

Actually is quite remarkable that you managed to create even what you did for a jam game! Ai is a really hard subject to do ._.

Developer

Aha, thanks a lot! I definitely hit a lot of dead ends and rewrote the various interactions multiple times.

I actually really liked the final boss fight in Monochrome, it was impressive how many phases that boss had and how they each felt distinct. I think I didn't notice the ink the first time the boss spawned it, but when he spawned it the second time I realized the fight was more than I initially anticipated. :D

Submitted

I did a little trick ;) Instead of recreating the attacks for the second phase, I added the ink and duplicated the amount of projectiles to make it harder, and it worked out pretty nicely.

Very cool! It has DND or Dwarf Fortress vibes.

Developer

Ahaha yeah, as soon as  I saw the gamejam theme I thought about how I love that anyone with darkvision in DnD just sees in grayscale in the dark, and I've been wanting to try my hand at a city builder for a long time, so this seemed perfect.
