How does you game fit the theme?
Play and find out~

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?

Your game deserves some more ratings. I think this is one of the best theme interpretations of the jam (most use it as a mechanic or the story, but yours incorporates it in both).

My only two critiques are:

1. Using the full thickness of the player for jumps was a bit unintuitive because the player's width is quite large.

2. I didn't get any music on the return trip.

Would you mind reviewing my game as well?

Developer

Thanks! I’ll try to play & rate your game later. Firstly, I already discovered that and I think I’ll update it after the jam. Secondly, it does return, just much much much much later. Going to fix that too.

that's really cool with the rewind to respawn!!! i love it but at the same time hate it.

cuz when i dead in the later level, i was forced to watch every step i made.

have to praise one thing is the jump buffer.

Developer

Hmm… maybe I should change the death animation…

you may add some checkpoints instead. i love the rewind

Developer

…probably not since I want the player to feel frustrated each time they die and try again with a little bit more knowledge than last time. Thanks anyways!

Developer

Also since I might cause seizures for epeleptic people

I managed to not ragequit this game like 4 times. Diying in some parts felt a little cheesy, but I could finished the game after a lot of tryharding. The rewind was a nice touch, and I certainly had fun playing this!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! P.S. I was laughing the whole time.

The concept was intriguing with this game, though I didn't really feel it's presence in the actual game.  Which was unfortunate, ignoring the concept though it is a interesting base for a platformer though personally I did feel like the movement and some specifics were a little bit off, to the point of being annoying to lose to a bit.

Specifically for me it was the fact that, and this may have just been visual, but when I would jump the jump was powerful enough to basically always hit the roof, which lead to a lot of bump the head situations where I would get "bounced" down into a trap of some sort.  Which, makes sense, in certain situations where the roof is clearly low enough for that, unfortunately it happened quite a lot, outside of those situations for me at least.  Which made it a little harder since I always had to keep that in mind.

Otherwise though the movement itself felt alright and relatively responsive.  Unfortunately though I do feel as though the hitbox on the character was, off, in some way.  I'm not sure if it was just too big which lead to causing extra deaths just a couple times, or if it was the visuals squishing enough to not fit it etc.

One final thing would be the fact that the rewind mechanic is visually cool, but unfortunately I feel like the fact that there is no limit to it combined with how it shows you your entire time before dying, causes a lot of times where you're stuck just waiting to get back to the beginning rather than actually restarting after death etc..  I do feel like if the goal was some sort of rage game etc. or some punishment in that way, it could be worth doing like that.

The problem in my opinion though is when there is absolutely no limit on how long the rewind id is. Which leads to an exponential punishment for failure where you're sitting there and watching how long you played through the level.  maybe some sort of cap, or some skip button etc.  I do feel a minimum before skipping would be nice, once again though if the goal is a rage game, that way you get the point across that someone died in a really whatever way,.  Obviously depending on how they died.

Overall though this is a decent set of mechanics with what I would be interested to see as a more integrated concept for the gameplay and or story.  Plus there is a relatively nice twist right at the end of the game.

The game design and art are fairly good, I tried several times but still failed in the third levels.  Though I still can't figure out how the game fit the theme. I have some clues but still not sure isn't it right or not.

Developer

It makes sense if you finish the game

I LOVE the rewind mechanic, the movement in this game feels really good, also sick beats. One little thing, I NEED a checkpoint, I am sorry but I suck at platformers. Overall this is a really nice looking game, well done!

Developer

Thanks for the rate! I won’t add any checkpoints however since the idea of the game is to get better each time! BTW, did you finish the game? if not, It’s okay! I kinda expected a lot of people who wouldn’t be able to finish my game.

Very cool concept! We were not expecting the game to rewind after each death as if it was imagined by someone, a very nice touch which fits extremely well into the theme. Great work!

Developer

Thanks! I was thinking of those funny planning scenes in the movie called Shawn(or was it Shaun) of the Dead and prince of persia(even though I haven’t played it yet). Thanks for playing!
