Cool idea! it is hard, to know when to use your ability to eat animals and when to play it safe and get closer to them using just your controls, but it makes it also a part of the challenge.

Also, it is great that you've added a tutorial in the main menu! I think that a cool twist you could've done with your game is to make some animals like the fox be an ant in disguise and you have to guess which animal is the ant to then eat it and get bigger (by seeing which one runs away from you)

I think that the main thing is making the theme part of the gameplay, and kind of giving it a twist rather than just using it as a part of the story, which was a difficult task in our game too!

Overall really enjoyed it, couldn't get past the strawberry, it seems like the main challenge here is not the foxes but mostly the mana/health bar, great submission!

Thanks a lot!

The fake animals is a great idea indeed. At first the fake fruit thing was part of the gameplay : if you stop moving, animals will think you're food and will try to eat you even if you're bigger. However, it didn't prove to be really useful with the kind of game it turned out to be, so i didn't even mention it in the tutorial. ^^'

The difficulty is my main regret with this game, especially for the strawberry, but yeah, the stamina bar being the main danger was on purpose, to avoid a "spammy" gameplay.

Really cool game idea. I always knew fruits are trying to kill us all! I really love the animals and fruits sprites. Also really cool that you added a tutorial to your menu. I did not read the description here first, because I always try to find out how the game fits the theme by myself. So first I was a little bit confused on what to eat because there were only animals around and I interpreted the fruit as veggi. But then remembered all those big eat small games and thought "maybe I am not a real fruit after all". So it totally works out for me. Well done!

Yeah, no wonder they keep the doctor away!

Thanks a lot for the kind words, I'm really glad you liked the tutorial, same for the sprites : they were made by my gf and i'm proud of how talented she is.

That's a nice way to test games, i think i'll do the same from here on out, it seems like this will create more memorable experiences

Hi. I liked your game. Cool idea and gameplay, but, for me, it is hard game.

Developer

Thank you! It is indeed quite hard, at least harder than what i was aiming for

Realy nice game! I especialy liked the artwork and the animation. A little hard at first but overall a fun game.

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you could get past the not so well balanced difficulty

Oh man the strawberry is not easy. This is a very cute game, reminded me of Feeding Frenzy, I think it'd be REALLY satisfying if there's a crunching sound when an ant gets eaten. I also wanted more things to interact with, maybe picking up something that refills your stamina bar or makes you move faster for a short period of time. There's so much more you can do with this already amazing game you created. I had a lot of fun playing this game, great job!

Developer

Yeah i had a hard time balancing it. I totally agree for the sound ^^'

That's some good ideas, it would be even better if those power ups were special animals like a golden bunny or something. I didn't even think about this game beyond the jam, so thanks for your ideas, idk if i will end up working more time on this game, but it was fun to realize i can now imagine what i could add beyond the initial scope of the game. Thanks for your feedback!

A really nice game. The evolving is very satisfying, and reminds me of an old game called spore. You've nailed the feeling of becoming an apex predator. The only thing I think is missing is more feedback (like a sound when you eat an enemy) but other than that one nitpick, this a really fun game! Good job.

Developer

Thank you! I used spore as a reference for how to get this concept right so it means a lot. Also i was gonna add those sounds but i ran out of time, so i guess this will have to wait till the ratings end

This game reminds me a lot of agar.io. It has that same sort of satisfying progression, getting bigger to eat more things.

At first I had trouble winning with the strawberry because I was attacking and missing too often, but I eventually learned to only attack when I was in range.

I thought it was cool that each fruit had something unique to them. My favorite fruit to play was the avocado, because I liked the ranged attack.

To improve, I think you should add more sound effects for when you eat something or move around.

Congrats on completing your first game jam!

Developer

Thank you fellow avocado enjoyer, i'm glad you liked it. I was really worried about the difficulty, so it's nice to hear you didn't give up on the strawberry!
