I like your game, it fit the theme and I like the art and the music.

I thought that I am stuck at some point but I kept playing it to the end, Really Nice :)

Congrats!

Developer

Thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked it!

We both have taken the main game them about getting over a depression!

At first, the controls are a little clunky, but I understand the game is not a platformer per see, but a history driven game. I'll suggest to set the text a little bigger because is somewhat difficult to read.

Animations are great! And the history hook me up to the end!

Developer

Hey,

Thanks for playing!

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. I've already corrected a few issues with text I'm waiting for the voting to be over so I could patch it up. I'll look into sizes too.

Hope your doing well!

I really like what you have going here. Some feedback for bugs and polish besides what everyone else has covered:

  • After unlocking the running loop, I was able to reach the far right side of the level and ended dropping off forever. Pretty sure I wasn't supposed to do that but the fog of depression couldn't "kill" me. Could be fixed with balancing tweaks for how fast it builds up or maybe it could serve as story element (a morbid one though).
  • Adding some small text blurp while the player is in the fog would help immensely. I found myself pretty confused why it didn't reset me instantly and ended up thinking it was a bug until the third loop when it finally made sense.

Overall, great work! Depression is brutal and a tough story to tell but you have great foundation for something special here.

Hey, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it!

The fog on the right-hand side should be more than long enough to reset a player. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll make sure to see what's going on with it and patch it after the voting is over.

There is a "depression" meter on the player's chest. The further you progress, the smaller it gets at the start of every loop, allowing you to sustain more "damage". Thank you for the advice, I think It will make the whole fog thing clearer to the player.  Yeah, it's definitely a project that requires more than a game jam's worth of time to do just right.

I enjoyed the story of this a lot. The art fit the theme of your game really well.

Only thing was some of the time I was able to move to quickly through a "level" so text would layer on top of each other so I couldn't read all of it.

Really good job!

Thanks for playing.

I'll try to fix all the bugs (as many as I can) after the voting. Things like the ones you found are ruining the experience a bit. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it.

I really liked the art and the story. The parallax scrolling in the background was a nice touch!

Awesome art style and  nice story, I see people have already mentioned the multi-jump bug, really good for the time constraints

Nicely integrated story and sweet little narrative game with the jams theme integrated smoothly.

A small note: The loops restarting feels sometimes a bit randomly, maybe you should add like a litte transition or effect this this.

Thank you for playing my game and thanks for your feedback!

I see your point and I agree. Now that I had a bit of a break from the game, I see that part could've been more impactful.

Can’t wait to check it out

really nice looking game, great art! I was able to multi-jump really high by mashing the space bar, but only if i got the timing just right.

Developer

Thanks for playing. I appreciate the feedback. Something to fix in the next jam, I guess.

HELLO! I did the art for our team and am a different person the same account and I just wanna applaud that art and that style - freaking, freaking, parallax scrolling cherry on top beautiful.

Developer

Hey! Wow, thanks! That means a lot, coming from a fellow artist.

What I liked:

  • I really liked the art style.  It had this hand-drawn feel that I've been thinking about toying around with.
  • I liked that you chose ambient music and the tone. It makes the game feel more cohesive.
  • You tie in the theme well with this game. Depression sucks and it can really feel like you're living the same day over and over.
  • The instruction sign is a nice touch. It's right at the beginning and it doesn't overwhelm the player with information they don't need yet.

Suggestions / Questions:

  • I may have missed this due to a possible bug, but I didn't notice the music switching to a more hopeful tone. I was still hearing the same thing played from the beginning.
  • After you first turn small, you go to the left and reach the end of that part. When you spawn big again, I went left again to try and make those jumps. I couldn't do it so I chose to head back to the otherside in case I missed something and ended up bugging the player out to where he was stuck in a single frame and was able to quadruple jump. I went to the left in that state and came to the end. Did I miss something due to this bug?
  • Visually, there was one issue I immediately noticed. When you go to the right on the first loop, it stops at the shadow of a woman. It's not an issue after this, but the camera limit is exactly where she and foreground object overlap, making it hard to see her and the dialogue.

Congratulations on submitting your game!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I'm happy you liked the things you did. I might have bitten off more than I could chew for the first game jam. One of the things you learn when doing jams more often i guess.

It looks like you've missed the last loop after turning big again where you get to run and go left again? Over there it triggers a filler theme to the main one, changing the overall feeling.

I found those front elements to be a bit irritating at times, but have decided to leave them in game as it looks a bit empty without. A good point to pay attention to next time.

If you have time, I'd suggest giving it another go, just to see the ending, it ties nicely to the overall theme, I think.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and constructive criticism, I really appreciate it. And thank you for playing my game!

No problem! Detailed feedback really helps us all get better. I have a tendency to make assumptions about the player and their choices, and sometimes I find out I was completely wrong in how they approached my game and the decisions they made. I did it this jam too.

And yeah, I definitely will replay it now that I know for sure it was a bug I encountered and I did miss something.
