I think the gameplay is solid, and I love the graphics - the chunkiness reminds me of Atari more than the later generations of pixel art! Only curious, I wasn't able to hear anything, but it looks like you used beepbox (which is a cool new tool I just learned about thanks to this!).

I was telling my friend at the beginning of this jam that I'd love to make a horror game, but didn't think it could work in 2D.  I feel like this game proved me wrong. It's really simple at the moment but given some objective, and maybe a limited battery on your light, I think this could turn into something really interesting.

THANK YOU!

A battery system was something I was planning on initially. Picking up batteries would stop you dead in your tracks, forcing you to enter a generated WASD combination (theme!) to actually insert the battery and be on your way.

Due to my daytime job taking up more energy than anticipated, I had to downscope however. The (overly) subtle theme interpretation that currently is in place, was very much an afterthought, but hey, it sorta works at least!

Great atmosphere from such a simple game, was very spooky always seeing the combined at the edge of my vision but being unable to turn and get a proper look for fear of being grabbed! Also attempted running around with the torch off, but apparently just because I can't see them doesn't mean that they can't see me :P Great game!

Congratulations on finishing the jam! I like the simplicity of your game. It is not clear if the game has some end-goal or even progression, or is it just about running away from monsters for as long as possible. If it’s just running, some more elements could help keep player engaged.

Thanks, and likewise! :)
Yeah, there's very little direction - but exactly as you mentioned, it's just about surviving for as long as possible right now. I had to downscope pretty severely, which seems to be the usual curse of the game jam debutant, haha :D

As soon as the jam is concluded, I have some very much less arcade-y plans for this!
