Cool entry! I like the graphics and sounds, also the movement feel smooth, I get the 4th place, very polish, nice menus, it was fun, have the 90´s look for sure, nice job!

This game has so much style and polish! Your pixel-art textures give the game a clean, futuristic look, and all of the visual details like the water trails behind the vehicles and flashing lights really made this feel like a forgotten gem from the PS1 era. I also really love that you combined both of the jam’s themes into an interesting premise. Great game!

Thanks! ^^ really glad you liked it!

This game would probably be my choice for the number 1 spot, its very polished, has great style fun and challenging and perfectly fits the style down to the smallest details, well done.

Developer

Wow thank you so much! ^^

I play a lot of the games here and this my favorite

That was great! You really nailed down the presentation and the 90s feel. The gameplay was fun when you’re going fast, but when you have to make a sharp turn and you lose a lot of speed, it feels really unsatisfying.

I don’t know if it’s because I was using a keyboard instead of a gamepad, but turning felt a bit awkward, like sometimes the turns would be really sharp, other times not sharp enough, and it was just difficult to follow along the track.

Another thing, I noticed that when the AI gets a lead, it’s almost impossible to catch up if you make a mistake.

Overall though, this was very well done and with a little bit of polish you could turn this into a very exciting high speed racer

Developer

Thanks! ^^ its not the keyboard haha the turning is just jank. Steering is especially bad on walls, and I didn't properly plan the tracks out for flowing movement when I made them. Tbh when I play I mostly let the walls turn for me, by riding them round corners, and don't steer at all which is what slows you right down. That speed loss is something I'm most unhappy with, max speed and flowing turns are what I ultimately wanted.

And yeah the AI is also jank, there's nothing adaptive about them so they're either slower or faster than you, and that's it. I was aware of this before submission and my workaround was to always progress the player (faster vehicles are always unlocked) this way I hoped players wouldn't feel punished for the mechanics/physics messing up or for making mistakes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! ^^

Really fun game, im not used to racing games so the controlls where kinda rough at the beginning. Nice work!

I really liked how speed worked in this, like I felt like I was going fast, but I still felt in control of the vehicles. As they got faster, I had to learn to fly them better so as to not turn around, the wrong way, so it was a good learning curve, and overall I didn't wrong-turn too many times. I'm not good at racing games, but I played/replayed through this one all the way to gold trophies for every race. I had two favorite vehicles: the yellow one because it was so fast and the purple arrow-shaped one, which after I got was when I was fast/skilled enough to start placing better.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! ^^ Mapping how fast the vehicles go to their turn speeds wasn't as straight forward as i'd have liked it to be, in the end it was all just a "best guess" haha

Very fun and very fast !! Loved the look, especially the HUD!

Developer

Thanks a lot! ^^ really glad you played!

the last car you unlock is so op. just go so fast the bots have no chance.

visually reminds me of starfox 64 and love the feature of unlocking maps and cars. great job!

i do think that its a bit weird that theres a brake button. i didnt really find a time where i needed to use it. but then again i am very bad at racing games.

Developer(+1)

Thanks ^^ glad you played! yeah big daddy is OP its like an old school cheat mode. Tbh I never brake either, I added it right at the start thinking you'd probably need a brake in a racing game right?  but I honestly forgot it was still in the game haha ^^

Developer

dam i was hoping no one would notice haha ^^ sorry about that, I didn't get round putting a pause/exit to menu button. Thanks for playing!

Great PS1 feel! There were some subtle things like the GUI design, font choice, and skybox that all came together and really felt like that 90s era. I like how much content you managed to pack in there (all the ships and tracks), and kudos on having full races with enemies. The camera was a bit janky and sort of messed up the controls sometimes, but if that got polished up I could definitely see this as a real release! Good job :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! ^^ glad you liked it,  tbh I was up to a point trying to remove the jank and gave up thinking "well everything in the 90s was a bit janky" haha

That was so damn impressive! the font was reminded me of thps, the racing reminded me of trickstyle. The cool camera transition before each race was awesome.  the music was awesome too.  Definitely would play it again.

Developer(+1)

your right it does look/feel tony hawksy probably was a bit of an influence, I never played trickstyle but i see what you mean haha ^^ Thanks!

I think it was a more common font back in the day, I know pepiman used it too. this font needs a revival and I'm glad your spear heading the campaign! haha next game I make I'm definitly adding it in :)  Keen for future games y'all put out!

Developer(+1)
