Loved the story and atmosphere! It's so peaceful (like gardening) but also panic inducing (got to get to the shrub in time!). I wasn't sure if the trees would block me when going around, so I kept sprinting everywhere.

I kinda agree with others that it misses the "you are the weapon" theme, but the two themes were pretty  restrictive! I really like what you made and I'm glad you made it!

I kind of found a... happy bug(?). After getting almost completely overwhelmed with the trees, I stood on the last remaining empty spots and held down the space bar to continuously pick the sprouts. They ended up respawning rapidly and endlessly, so I was able to rack up over 4000 Baobabs destroyed :D

Great atmosphere and overall juiciness! I enjoyed the typewriter effect and the ending left me feeling a perfect happy/sad :_D

So glad you found a lot to like in the story! I'm definitely impressed with the games like yours that nailed the two themes!

I like that you have the option in the game of persistently pulling up that final baobab, even though it certainly makes going for a high "score" much too easy. I'd like to add other features after the jam ends so that it feels like there are other similar options. For instance, I wanted to add another tracker that would let you know how many sunsets you had seen while on the asteroid (by checking if the sun is in a "setting" position relative to yours). If I do put that in, it could also technically be "broken" because you could just keep walking around at approximately the speed of the sun so that its always in "sunset" position, thus getting tons of sunsets! It might be a nice interplay between doing something enjoyable for yourself (watching sunsets) vs. doing your "duty" to the asteroid (pulling up planks).

That's a really good point of letting people aim for a high score, if that's what they want to do, or enjoying the sunsets, essentially letting them define their own goals. I hadn't thought about that. I could see the constantly pulling of the last baobab as a final stand, trying to save the Asteroid! That's really good storytelling baked into the mechanics! I love the sunset idea too :)

I love this story/game!

The arts, the music, the story, it's beautiful! The screens with the letter-by-letter text and the typewriter sounds are so cool, loved it. And the reference to "Le Petit Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is just perfect and well placed ♥

In my opinion, it just misses the "you are the weapon" theme.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you liked the game! The "you are the weapon" theme is definitely a stretch for this one. I tried to justify it since at least you pull up the baobabs with your own hands (making you maybe sorta weapony?), but it's definitely a bit of a reach!

Really neat game. You may want to change the audio of the typewriter so that it is heard on left and right. I found that if I just stand in one spot holding space I can destroy thousands of baobab trees. I was kind of sad when I felt I should leave the planet.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! The ending is sad, but at least you don't have to keep endlessly pulling up baobabs! After the jam, I'll definitely reevaluate some of the gameplay aspects and the typewriter effect.

I just loved the game page, the graphics are beautiful, colors are cool, the sound effects are good (except the effect of typing, it was a bit annoying), and the text styles are pretty cute! Rotation system works perfect, Good Job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! That's so good to hear that you enjoyed the graphics and most of the sounds! I'll definitely have to reevaluate the typewriter effect, or at least make it more subtle.

I really liked your game, just give some tips if you want to improve it after the jam. Nice artstyle, nice sound, but there is some game design mistakes.
1 -You don't need to keep the tutorial on the screen all the time.
2 - There is no friction on the ground, so there is no reason to stop pressing shift. It is a useless key, once there is no need of a walking speed. Always keep it as simple as you can friend

Nice work at all, keep rockin

Developer(+1)

Those are good points! I personally find strolling around the asteroid peaceful, but I can see that it isn't useful for the actual gameplay. Will definitely reconsider some of the gameplay aspects after the jam.

Nice thought experiment, quite well done. The fact, that the graphics don't behave pixel perfect triggers me a little :D
I loved the fact, that a day is actually a full rotation of the sky, that's a neat detail!

Developer

Thank you! I had a hard time thinking about the pixels with all the rotation--especially the player walking around the asteroid kinda bugs me too because he goes ever so slightly into the asteroid around the corners. Still, I'm glad that overall it looks pretty nice!

I think the concept is good, but needed some more polish, there is an "exploit" where you start getting a lot of points when you are about to lose and kind of kills the mood, but it's still a great idea.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! It's good to know some parts are working well and helpful to know where they aren't. My intention was for the "game" to be more of an experience than something to "win." Basically, I wanted it to recreate that sinking feeling you get when more and more responsibility is piled onto you so that a seemingly simple if tedious task becomes impossible. It doesn't seem like there are any options, but at least in the game you actually do have options. You can give up right away, abandoning the asteroid without even trying, you can ignore the task and just enjoy the atmosphere until you're ready to leave, you can try your best to complete the task and only leave when things get out of hand, or you can spend eternity pulling up the last sprout. Sure, you'll rack up the number of plants you've pulled, but if the asteroid is doomed, does it really matter?

Anyway, I wanted to use this jam to explore that feeling, but it's totally fine if that's not the "feel" the game gives. It's a good exercise for me in finding out how a game is received vs. how it was intended! I'll learn from this feedback for the next game (or maybe for a retelling of this one!)

Developer

Here is my submission for the 2 Colors Game Jam! I was really worried about finishing in time, but after narrowing the scope a bit, I have something I'm happy with. I had originally planned to have volcanos and a rose on the asteroid as well, but maybe I'll add those in after the jam.

Theme Requirements: Space (your on an asteroid in space!) and You are the Weapon (no one's going to get rid of those baobab sprouts for you, so you've gotta use your own hands to rip them from the ground and hurl them into space!)
