Cool idea! Moving feels a little slow, but makes sense considering the backstory and character, so it wasn't overly annoying :)

It was kinda tough for me but fun game

Art was really great, as was the sfx! I also like the backstory and how that made the ever present time until your last breath timer fit so well with the theme. Good job :)

The levels felt a little repetitive but they also gave the opportunity to learn the best way to deal with each enemy, so by the end I enjoyed the little combat dance with the slimes. Sound and art were excellent and I quite enjoyed the final boss battle and ending!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it. We definitely had plans for the level types/enemies/bosses, but this type of game, as well as the art style and music, were all very new to us, and we just didn't have the time.

This game is very good, I love the concept and having to move through dungeons while managing your time until your last breath is incredibly interesting. I think personally the only fault for me is the simplicity of the game, but I mean, this is a game jam, thats bound to happen. Some other puzzle elements that require you to think quickly would have been interesting, as the game kind of only contains combat sections. A level where we'd have to solve a puzzle before our time ran out would have been very neat

But otherwise, this game is awesome!!! I really like what ya'll have done here!

It's funny that you bring that up, I would have loved something like that as well, but bug fixing took so long that anything of that nature was unfortunately not possible. I'm glad you enjoyed though! I'd love to expand upon this game sometime in the future, and if that does happen, you can bet there will be some puzzles and ways to mix up the gameplay.

I love the visuals and the game, the gameplay is quite fun, just that if you forgot the key you need to go around and take back the key (sounds like a skill issue for me), the theme implementation is quite solid  and good job, love your work!

Developer

I'm happy to hear you liked it! We didn't have time to get others to test before submitting, so hopefully you didn't find it too hard.

Solid entry, though i had not too much fun with it. I think the visuals look good. The sound got really annoying really fast for me.

Avoiding the enemies worked pretty good in the end. Didnt managed to defeat the boss. I think its well crafted, though something is missing for me. It may be due to the music or the fact that ive basically have to play on timer or maybe some rpg mechanic would have hooked my playertype more. From implementation perspective, it is a good entry though.

I'm glad you gave it enough of a try to get to the boss. I can't expect the game to be for everyone and that's okay! I would have loved some upgrades or rpg mechanics as well, but unfortunately just what was here was such an undertaking, we just didn't have the time.

This is amazing. Very Zelda Like. My only critique is to make the screen size bigger. A little hard to see on my game. Good job!

Thanks for playing! That's actually a really good idea, and I might try that. There is a full screen button in the bottom right corner that you can click with your mouse. So luckily Itch has us covered if it's hard to see, but it would benefit from the default size being bigger anyways. Edit: Just doubled the size on the page. I appreciate the suggestion, that was definitely a good call.

The main menu art is amazing, and the gameplay was super fun as well

Developer

I appreciate it, it was a lot of fun working in a 1-bit palette.

I agree, I never worked in just 2 colors before and thought it was a super fun challenge

Delightful mash-up of Zelda 1 and Castlevania! Music is also faithful to the genre.

I realize that it's an homage to Castlevania, but I'm a little frustrated by the sluggish movement in such a strictly timed game. Also, the floor tiles that contain a cross shape looked (at first) as though they might be interactable. But overall, the visual style was highly legible, which is not easy in 1 bit.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The movement was intentional to really portray that this old adventurer is past his prime, but I totally understand having gripes with it.

You really nailed the 1-bit pixel art style. The gameplay is pretty smooth. It reminds me of Minit in a lot of ways.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed and got to the ending! This art style and type of game were very new to both of us, so it's nice to hear it works.
