This game is such a blast! I really enjoyed the mechanic of being able to hide under the water. The idea of a sea fox is so cute too!! Music/SFX and ALL art is on point, awesome submission!!
I think it's really nicely done. One small thing I noticed is the web build seems to be some tutorial. but pressing e doesn't do anything. Instead the Desktop version works and it starts the game. Other than this small detail, which I can just overlook I guess, I really enjoyed the game a lot, very nice job on it!
Fun little bullet hell, kinda addictive too. The music is nice, the gameplay is fun, the only thing I feel like could be a great idea to implement is to carry over the enhancments to the next level. The game would need some rebalancing, but it could add an extra dimension.
Great work!
Thanks for the feedback! That is a good suggestion. I've gotten at least one other player suggest that. Whenever the jam ends, I'll consider it while making an update
It's extremely polished, both visually and in gameplay.
Overall, good game
That was sick! Everything was so well done and polished. The diving mechanic was really fun to learn and use. I'm typically garbage at bullet hell games, but that one mechanic let me survive much longer than I normally would have been able to, and even got me past the first boss! I liked the upgrade options, and the beam splitter power up was lots of fun to mow down enemies with. I really appreciated that letting robots pass only set your progress back and wasn't a game over, so there was incentive to kill everything (progress and EXP), but I didn't freak out or plow through bullets trying to kill every last thing. Just such a well-designed game! I will say that I was still kind of confused by the green detonator robot, I thought getting hit by it would kill me too. Also, having all the projectiles be the same color as the enemies made it hard to tell sometimes what to shoot and what to avoid when the screen got busy. But this was so much fun to play, excellent work!
Thank you for the extensive review! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Maybe there are a few things I could do to improve visual clarity later when I make an update
Good game! If you want you can play and rate my game too: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966
Thanks! I'll play your game later too
Very fun to play. Excellent polish. runs smoothly.

This was pretty well made and feels very polished!
Cools Game
Heck yeah cool pixel art. Need more fox mermaids in my life blub blub bub!
Thanks! I agree, we need more fox mermaids 🦊🐠
This gave me f-zero vibes in the best way. Great work with the art and overall vibe, this is a really impressive project!
The game looks awesome and the mechanics feel clean, good job!
It’s an extremely fun game to play. A bit hard and each level seems to drag, due to how long they were. However, that is just minor. I like how you can avoid the attacks by sinking.
Thanks! Lots of people are telling me levels are too long. I guess I should've made them shorter 😅 I'm glad you like it despite that minor grievance and difficulty
I liked your game art. It was really cool when I got one upgrade and it made my shoot really fast . Good luck!
The vibes are immaculate, but I do have some not great opinions about the gameplay itself.
It's slow and drawn out even compared to older shooters of the PC-98 / Commodore era, it gets a bit hard to tell enemies from bullets from my poor eye visibility and the boss designs look nice, but the patterns feel pretty uninspired.
Maybe I'm not the intended audience for this game, but as a fan of the genre I wouldn't call it a bullet hell. At least it wasn't a survivor-type game labeled as one.
I'm happy you like the vibes. And those are all very valid critiques. I had a feeling it wouldn't be a favorite among fans of the bullet-hell genre. They're not the type of game I normally play so I have very little experience with bullet-hells but I wanted to try making one anyway
It's still interesting to see a take on the bullet hell genre from outside of the bullet hell/shoot 'em up bubble though, I've always wondered what other people thought about the genre.
Making bullet hell games are difficult, with it being born and popular from the by-gone arcade days in 80s~90s japan, where the genre itself has echo chambered in its game design that this is the type of content that veterans of the genre expect when they play the game.
Do try ZeroRanger though! It's an amazing introduction to the genre and you've probably heard the game's soundtrack somewhere on the internet at some point.
Thanks for pointing me to some awesome inspiration! I am interested in making a more robust bullet-hell and ZeroRanger looks close to what I'd want to make if I do. It looks very good
you really managed to create a bullet hell water experience in there
This is banging! I love the trick with the progress bar combined with XP progression. I realized that losing progression isn't always bad, because it gives you more opportunities to gain levels before the boss. IMO this is an excellent way to keep the game balanced. experienced players will go faster and play against the boss at a lower level, while someone with less experience with bullet hells (me!) will take longer and face the boss at a higher level. nice work!
Thanks for all the compliments! I'm glad you appreciate what I was going for
As someone who is really bad at bullet hells, I really like this game! And I'm not saying it's easy by any means just that the mechanics of the game are perfect! The dive function is genius, allowing players to dodge attacks while not making the game too easy. The music is really good too, it really fits the pixel art style and retro vibe. The simple color palette is beautiful and it makes all the robots and Eau stand out on screen for really good readability. I can't wait to see Fava Beans' other work.
Thanks! That's all exactly what I wanted to hear. Readability was one of my main considerations when making the palette and the dive was mainly to make it more approachable and give the game a faster pace
That's some great art, nice!
