Good Evening!

Asset Forge is running very very slowly on my Macbook Pro (Catalina).

I have followed the troubleshooting guide (disabled vsync and scaled the UI so it's not tiny :D)

The problem is clicking on anything takes a long time and it means the app is effectively unusable; which is unfortunate since the prior version runs very well!

Thank you again for all your awesome work; it makes prototyping stuff so much better!

So I just tried some different combinations of settings and it looks like on my particular mac the Antialiasing settings impact performance quite drastically; setting it to 'off' makes things a little more responsive but it's still not as smooth as the prior version.

Hopefully if anyone else is having performance issues perhaps setting AA to 'off' will help a bit!

I am using a new Mac Pro late 2019 have the same issues. AA off helps a bit but still very slow.

To increase the performance;

  • Consider enabling Vsync
  • Turn off anti-alias
  • Turn off real-time shadows
  • Turn off ambient occlusion

None of these settings will impact rendering sprites or exporting models.

Even doing all this is just enough to go from completely unusable to "laggy" in retina displays.

In addition to that, do this:

  • Right click AssetForge.app and click "Get Info"
  • Check the "Open in low resolution" box
  • Now it is really pretty fast! :)

thanks. this is a lifesaver!

By the way, this app uses a lot of GPU resources, so I have 2 simple suggestions to improve overall performance:

  • An option to scale the internal resolution (while keeping the UI at high DPI) - it would be very useful for integrated cards.
  • Dont redraw the scene every frame if nothing is happening, just a static image and no input (this is the reason enabling vsync helps)
    • Nice side effect: less heat and better battery life

Cheers!

Thank you RodrigoCard for the 'Open in low resolution' tip! <3

I too found the app (2.1.0 release) extremely sluggish in fullscreen on an MBP with retina screen even with all the extra rendering settings off. Opening in low res means I can have it full screen and it still be responsive with all settings on \o/

Same problem, MacBook Pro 13' 2019.

2,8 GHz 4 Cores Intel Core i7.

Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 Mb.

16 Gb RAM.

macOS Catalina.

Application runs so slow it is unusable. Even in "low resolution" mode.

Did you change the configuration found in the troubleshooting section?

Yes. Unfortunately, I didn't notice a difference.

Also I disabled VSync completely.

It improves performance a bit, but it's still slow. And the laptop is overheating quickly.

You'll have to enable VSync for better results.

It was enabled.

Disabling it improved the performance.

Setting it back makes performance much worse.
