This topic is known as Search Engine Optimization or SEO. There's a lot of conflicting and bogus information out there, and a lot of people ready to take your money in exchange for advice that may or may not be legitimate. What you're asking for might not be possible depending on how common the words are that you want to rank for. The two solid pieces of advice I can give you are:

  • Have a good description, tags, etc.
  • Try to get people to write articles, blog posts, etc. that link to your game's page

We do everything we can from a technical standpoint to make project pages friendly to search engines. The next step is to help Google find your page.

  • On itch.io: Do what you can to get your game listed on more places, and high up on those pages. Accurately tag your game and provide any optional metadata. If people like your game on itch.io then its visibility will be increased (eg. you might show up on homepage or on other project recommendations) and Google will have an easier time discovering it. Attempting to cheat on any of your metrics or classifications on itch.io will get your game delisted, and we may penalize it by deindexing the page from search engines as well. Please do not spam.
    • The release announcements board could be a good place to post, we don't apply a nofollow to itch.io links shared on our community.
  • Elsewhere: Try to get other websites to cover your game and link back to it. Share your game on places where you're allowed to share it. (Be respectful when posting on other communities). Include link to your page on your homepage if you have one.
