Hi there, first of all, sorry for the radio silence the past month or so. We've been busy finishing up the game and going through QA for the Playstation 4 version of the game.

We are releasing Loot Rascals on the 7th March. All refinery edition players will receive a Steam key.

One major thing in this build, we have removed the in game feedback button. We will be locking most things down for release on the 9th February and so are removing elements relating to the refinery edition such as this ahead of release. We would still welcome minor feedback via the forums and via email/Twitter. Thanks for all the amazing feedback so far, the game has come on leaps and bounds thanks to all of you!

Patch Notes - 3/2/17


Keys can now be remapped via the settings menu

The tile the player will move to is now subtly highlighted to aid players when moving

Tweaks to forcefield areas

Balance Changes:

Itchy Coo power levels now relate to their proximity to walls.

Change to Space Death to increase his effectiveness

Enemies can now spawn on suppressor tiles

Lick Boys no longer ice up suppressor tiles

Fire can now be used in combat when the Boom Buddy card is equipped

Some small tweaks to avoid a few really unfair scenarios.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed bug relating to trap tiles when teleporting back to the dome

Fixed typos in the pool of names for enemies

Fixed animation issues in some late game enemies

Removed exploit where players can reincarnate an Elite enemy and obtain unlimited network cards

Various fixes to web jock targeting

Enemies can no longer slide into areas protected by forcefields

Fixes for various challenge areas that cause level gen errors

Crash bug relating to Spectral Bride moving through walls fixed

Plasma no longer hurts the first enemy in a chain twice

Fixed typo caused by using Card Rockets

Fixed game seed generation issues

Fixed a Night Wizard and token card interaction

Subtitles timing fix

Fixed a rare crash caused by swapping out a Gains Lamp with another card

Fix to Lunk animations upon wake up

Mail can no longer be obtained during seeded/daily challenge mode

Mail can no long be obtained when all loot slots are full

Fix for wall tile positioning in world 4

Fixed floating corpse mites

Players can now pick up cards on tiles they were stolen from on

Warping back to the dome no longer breaks the Chronoflage

Fixed incorrect Card Rocket tool tip

Sticky cards generated by the Gamble Guy are stuck down straight away

Grabbler no longer chases the player if she has been taunted after stealing a card from the player

Fix for leaderboard tooltips

Journal enemy weakness fixes

Enemies can no longer slide onto tiles that contain bombs


Patch Notes - 6/12/16

Crash dumps:

You can now send us a crash dump file that, in the event of a crash, will enable us to work out what caused it

If the game crashes, it will output a file called 'LootRascalsDump.dmp' in the game's working directory

You can get to the working directory by clicking 'Show local files' in the Itch client (the working directory is usually C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\itch\apps\Loot Rascals\)

This dump file can be quite large, so to send it to us you can use - the email address to send to is

Alternatively, upload it somewhere (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) and email a link to it to us

If you have the facility, putting them in a zip/rar/7z file is also helpful


Trying a new slightly better starting hand.

Trying a reduced set of strength / weaknesses from enemies.

Re-worked health machine costs to 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 tokens.

Increased chance of level 1 cards having properties.

No "above or below" or "left and right" cards with bad results.

Made thieves less aggressively target your best cards.

Reduced thieves power a little.

Reduced number of Scrootveg.

Made Scrootveg knock-down only loosen cards from backup inventory.

Increase cost of Reveal Map card to 3 tokens.

Increase strength of Bomb Flock card.

Our current thoughts on balance:

World 1 is about right and shouldn't change too much. We may need to fix some

special "hard straight out of the gate" cases though.

Later worlds could stand to be a bit harder. We're keen to try and add

more challenging situations, rather than gradually boosting enemy power.

We'd like to see more ability cards available in World 1.

Bug Fixes:

Improved behaviour controller deadzone behaviour.

Refined visibility behaviour around Choira Obscura.

Prevent Scrootveg from launching cards into the Happy Landing Zone.

Always reincarnate with max health, even when that is more than 5.

Prevent Night Wizards that have yet to be found from affecting day/night.


Patch Notes - 9/12/16


Boosted power of all holograms slightly.

Increased longevity of friendly holograms.

Slightly more ability enemies in World 1.

Slightly reduced number of cards dropped.

Slightly increased the variety/difficulty of enemies that appear in World 2+3+4


Credits can be viewed via Rascally Recollections

Ability enemies can now spawn inside forcefield areas

Rotatable cards can no longer be sticky cards

Can hand in quest cards even all slots are full if reward is a new card.

Can now close in game map and seeded game seed entry screen with B button.

Players can now view card help whilst choosing a card to send to space.

Correct tooltips now show for abilities whilst in combat

Ability tooltips now appear when aiming at an enemy

Negative card effects text now completely red as opposed to just the number.

Warp to base tooltip greyed out when unavailable due to enemy proximity.

Players can no longer examine cards.

Added a bunch of rare world generation variations.

Added healing emitters.

Daily Challenge is now blocked for players with out of date builds.

Added special tiles for challenge rooms to make them visually distinct.

Another attempt at improving controller Dead Zones (thanks ardonite).

Health machine now displays the current cost on its screen

Can now select Playstation / Xbox button prompts (in Graphics Options)

Patch Notes - 13/12/16


We will be clearing the leaderboards out towards the end of this week so make sure you claim your title as the best pre-Christmas Loot Rascals player.

Crash dump update:

When sending us crash dumps could you please also include LootRascals.pdb from the root of your Loot Rascals folder.


Higher quality videos

Plasma & Ice Damage have been boosted slightly.

More enemies have weaknesses/resistances to abilities.

Pressing E to enter the dome now takes a turn.

Players can now choose to display Xbox 360 or Playstation 4 controller tool tips via settings menu.

Adjusted animations for webjocks

Health Machine now starts at 2 tokens per heal

Cards can no longer be decompiled whilst being looted.

Corpse Mites now have a higher minimum power

  • fix for 'Other X' card property text being incorrect (e.g. it would say 'Other Spikepans:' for a card which was not a Spikepan)

Patch Notes - 21/12/16

  • Sometimes Card rockets now crash outside of the safe zone
  • Added some new sound effects
  • Adjusted ability icons in bottom right so they all look consistent when desaturated
  • Steam traps are now handled before enemies move
  • Enemies at the end of their range now have a visual 'tell'
