[Programmer][C++/C#] Looking for a nice project to pour my time into as a dev

Hello all. My name is Dalton. As the title may suggest, I am looking for something to do with all my time as programming is my hobby.
To start, I will tell you a bit about myself:

I am a programmer who likes to make things in C++ and C#. I tend to like making systems/engines personally, and really enjoy making things with procedural generation / emergent gameplay using openGL personally, although I'm very familiar with Unity from my last several years making BepInEx mods for many unity games.

I am a verified Developer on nexusMods (not that it means much haha) for making several mods adding console commands / the consoles themselves to games such as Hollow Knight, Wobbly Life, Muck, and a few others. This was a huge boon in learning the Unity APIs from the programmer's perspective, as since I am not an artist I have to do all of my altering/modding of a game in code. Creating materials, textMesh objects, the whole lot in script. After Unity's fiasco a few years ago, however, I was unsure of what the future may hold for Unity, so I dove into the deep end of the pool in openGL:

For the last year and a half since, I have studied openGL full time. I have learned instancing, setting up buffers of any kind, manipulating/tesselating meshes. As much as I could shove into my brain in that time, I did. I have several 'engines' that I have handrolled- each better than the last- that have taught me all about quaternions, matrices, all the stuff that makes the head hurt! I have quite the love for openGL, and continue practicing it every day. However, I tire of not actually _making_ anything. I make experiments, I make examples to display concepts, but all the theory in the world is not helpful if you do not practice. I need a larger scale game to sharpen myself on.

I don't have many examples under my profile on here, as a lot of them are old, but I have several recent projects from the last year that have never seen the light of day that I would be willing to display as verification of my programming. I have many small projects that I would LOVE to gab about to someone haha. I'm just not an ideas guy, I am an implementer. I can make whatever I am asked to, however there must be a map or general idea of the concept. You know?

I am looking for a group that either:
1) has an established idea that they are going for and a path towards that vision set out, sans developer

or

2) a few folks who would like to just make a game together and actually finish it.

now, this is a bit tricky on here, as everyone has a life and all and timelines shift, but I would like to find a group that will stick it through to the end. There are going to be days where we don't want to make a game, there are going to be days when people get down in the team, and that is okay. We are all human, after all. However, I need folks that will stay as true to the task as I will- Even through the bad days!

If you want to have cities, you've got to build roads šŸŽµ

i do not get on itch very often, so I likely will not see any responses left here. In order to reach me, Discord is a must.

Invitation to Join Project Cece: Rev-Share Programmer Opportunity

Hi Dalton (@Daltonyx on Discord),

I saw your post on itch.io about looking for a solid project to dive into as a C++/C# programmer with Unity and OpenGL experience. Your background in building systems, procedural generation, emergent gameplay, and Unity mods (like those for Hollow Knight and others) sounds like a perfect fit for what we’re building. You mentioned wanting an established idea with a clear path and a committed team that sticks through to the end – that’s exactly what we have here!

About Project Cece

We’re developing Project Cece, a satirical tycoon simulation game where you manage a soft-drink empire with a ā€œspecial ingredientā€ inspired by urban myths about major cola brands. Play as a quirky fox founder turning a bankrupt company into a global powerhouse through research, factory scaling, marketing, and dodging regulators. It’s got dark humor like Two Point Hospital and depth like Cities: Skylines.

  • Core Gameplay: Open-ended sandbox with supply chains, dynamic demand, ā€œheat meterā€ for law enforcement thrills, and balancing reputation vs. legal risks.
  • Visual Style: Vibrant, hand-drawn cartoon aesthetics with bold outlines and fizzy animations.
  • Tech Stack: Built in Unity 6.0 LTS, using Git, Krita, and FMOD. Targeting Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck.
  • Timeline: Aiming for MVP soon, followed by 6-month polish for commercial release.
  • Team: Core group including developers, 2D artists, SFX experts, and me (Ivan) as lead with prior game dev experience. We’re based in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, but fully remote-friendly.

We have a detailed Game Design Document, concept art, and a clear roadmap ready. Your skills in Unity APIs, OpenGL, quaternions, matrices, and implementing mechanics would be invaluable for core systems like physics, UI, and potential multiplayer expansions.

Why Join Us on Rev-Share?

This is a revenue-share basis with fair splits based on contributions – we’re all committed to seeing it through, even on tough days, just like you described. We’ve got the vision and structure you mentioned: an established path, no slacking, and a focus on finishing strong. If you’re up for it, this could be the larger-scale game to sharpen your skills on!

Let’s chat on Discord (@forgotten_soldier) or email f8.innovation@gmail.com. Share more about your recent projects – I’d love to hear about those handrolled engines!

Looking forward to potentially teaming up,
Ivan

Hey Dalton my name is Funova and I have an idea for a game. I am based in the UK and I am willing to make a game till the end of the:) if you work for me for free that’s cool. I can definitely split the revenue we earn once the game becomes successful. I am not on any projects and I do need a person willing to spend their time on my game. My email is contact.funova@gmail.com. Discord is funova78

Hi! Sent a request to disсord. A little about my proposal.

Given your skills and predisposition to emergent systems, I think you will be interested in what I do. I would be glad to work on a joint project.
