[QA] [Playtester] Free QA / Playtesting Help — Building Real Experience

Hi! I’m a passionate indie dev working toward becoming a professional game developer, currently focused on Game Design and QA (Quality Assurance).

I’m currently building my portfolio and looking for small or indie projects to help with — specifically:

  • Playtesting your game
  • Finding bugs and edge case issues
  • Writing clear QA-style bug reports with reproduction steps and frequency

I’m not looking for payment — just real-world experience, teamwork, and a chance to support developers while I grow my skills.

Here’s an example of how I document bugs:

Bug ID: BUG-001

Title: Player clips through wall in Room 3 (SE corner)

Environment: Windows 11, Build v0.3.2, Fullscreen, 3440x1440

Severity: Medium

Priority: High

Reproduction Rate: 4/5

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Load into Room 3

2. Move to the southeast corner

3. Crouch

4. Hold sprint and walk directly into the wall

Expected Result:

The player should be blocked by the wall and remain inside the room.

Actual Result:

The player clips through the wall and exits the map space.

Notes:

Only happens when sprinting from crouch. Normal walking doesn’t cause it.

I take QA seriously and will treat your project with professionalism and care — no matter how early or small the build is.

I don’t currently use Discord, but I’m happy to communicate here or by download link — whatever works best for you.

DM me if interested!

I develop a roguelike deckbuilder (Way to Crown) with rich and complex set of mechanics, so lots of playtesting is needed. Due to complicated nature of gameplay, players keep finding non-trivial bugs even to this day, you can see some examples of past bugs in the dev log. Another task I have is game balancing, which, although somewhat different from pure QA, can also be considered important experience.

This is a hobby project, we do not have deadlines or other kinds of pressure. However, I am a professional programmer by trade so my perspective could be somewhat helpful for you.
You can post your reports (and see existing ones) in the game forum.
If you decide to use Discord you can also contact me on our discord server (or directly: alsoknown1).

P.S.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but such a level of formality is overkill for very small projects/teams. In my experience, one of the important determinant of success in testing is choosing an appropriate amount of bookkeeping / bureaucracy depending on industry, project, team size, etc.

I know it's overkill, but I'm getting my diploma early and want to apply for Naughty Dog as QA and move to Game Design. If you prefer, I will just explain the bug. I am specifically specialized in playing 3D games but will do my best with this. Thank you for the opportunity.

If anyone else has a game, I will help with that one also.

What is your game version?

0.20

It is displayed on the starting screen.

Hello! I'm currently working on a microspeedrunning platformer. I would greatly appreciate help testing if you're willing! My email is kev2.tablet@gmail.com if you would like to continue discussion there- otherwise here on itch is cool too.

Here is the game

(1 edit)

I'd love to! Would you prefer email? I just like to keep things simple, so I stay on itch. This looks like a fun game! Just give me the build version and the thumbs up and I will test away.

Edit: Did you do the artwork?

Itch works fine for me. I didn't do the artwork (wish I was that good.)

I'm not quite sure what you meant by the build version, this is the game page: https://keveatscheese.itch.io/travisthefrog
There's a windows & web build, you can do whichever you prefer.

Okay. When I say version or build, I mean something like: v.0.3.2

There is major (the zero), minor (the three), and patch (the two). So, if it's still early, you would have no major, at which point it would be set to zero. I think you get the rest. But that's okay, it isn't necessary for me to write a bug report. And the game is fluid, nonetheless.

oh! I haven't been super good about tracking version number. What's on itch is the very first public release but it's still in-development so maybe saying v0.1.1 is good

Great!
