How you decide that an asset pack is worth buying?

Reviews? Page design? Number of elements? Price? What exactly is a dealbreaker for you (except sales ๐Ÿ˜†)? 


Also, do you feel like a particular aspect or type of asset packs are underdelivered?

I guess you mostly mean 3D assets. Do you use any 2D?

Sad to hear that. If i rememver corectly, normal maps in Death cells and png images in fnaf were made in similar way. 

Maybe if not for the assets, at least you games will get some track ๐Ÿ˜บ

Idk, maybe you could contemplate charging for some premium stuff. I have around 800 downloads over all my projects, and got so far 15 payments. Which is not much, but is honest work.

What kind of video? Trailer, tutorial, devlog, speedpaint, demo where the asset were used in a prototype?

My first main concern when it comes to buying assets is compatibility. They have to be compatible with other assets I'm using, period.

I need a complete set or I should say plenty of assets but most of the time, they are too different to each other.

My second main concern is suit my design. Ex: I want a dragonian who could attack in 5 directions. If an asset pack is missing just one direction attack sprites, then I won't buy it. I know I'm very picky but I don't want to compromise my design just because the asset is missing required sprites.

I've heard about this problem. Coherence is a huge problem. Do you follow any authors that you belive to deliver in this regards?

I want my games to have a consistent style.  Therefore my concerns when buying asset packs are:

  • How similar is it in style to what I already have?
  • Is there a lot of stuff in the same style?
  • Do I have the skills to produce additional assets in the same style?

You mostly prefer pixel art or are looking for new styles as well?

I like many art styles: pixel art, digital painting, voxel art, low-poly 3D.  Pixel art is my favorite out of these, and (for various reasons) the only one that I actually used for released games so far.

Yeah, I expect pixel art to be a liber just because there are thousand of assets in here that can be used together.

Type of asset/look, and licensing rights.

What exactly do you mean by type/look?

I've never purchased an asset pack before, but if I ever do in the future, I would look for what ever asset matches the look of my game. ( tropical plants for a jungle game  )
